Want a coach....can't afford a coach

Hello everyone in Slowtwitch land.

I’m training for my third IMC this year and I was wondering if anyone would be able to provide me with links to some training plans. I would love to hire a coach but I just can not afford the monthly fees as I’m laid off right now (however this does open the door to training time).

A friend of mine helped me out with a really good general guide last year but I am hoping to find something a little more specific. ie: types of workouts targeting specific aspects all while building towards my goal.

If anybody can point me in the right direction I would be sincerely grateful!
cheers!

Not sure your situation but a friend of mine was doing exactly the same thing about this time last year. He figured he needed help to improve.

Due to financial problems he decided to do it the old fashioned way by increasing the number of runs and swims each week and increasing both the duration and intensity of his biking. He trained more and by some weird coincidence, finished with his best race by far.

A lot of people can do far more on their own than they give themselves credit for and once they have done all they can, turn to getting help to improve a little more.

I swear I’m not affiliated but I have been touting Opentri.com on here lately.

That’s only because it’s free, I’ve used it with moderate success, am using it again for IMLP and many others have detailed success with it (multiple times, in fact).

Give it a look. The price is right. Plus Mike answers questions on the site.

I have a free plan on our club site at http://www.ottawatriathlonclub.com - go to training resources. Read the info carefully. It’s all about simple hard work and is based on a wide range of input from experienced coaches and other finishers.

Opentri is a god one. There are also a lot of books with plans. Visit your local library or hit B&N/Borders and peek through some tomes.

Check out Be IronFit by Don Fink. A decent plan in there.

If you have website or p.r. skills, you should consider a swap with a coach you like.

Ironguides 20 week Ironman program.

Comes in ‘beginner’ or ‘intermediate/advanced’ format.

$145 for the 20 week program.

There is also a online forum for questions you might have about the program. The detailed program has explanations of the sessions and theory behind them.
