Interesting story. Wonder how he thought that he could get away with it. I’ve met a guy that claims to have done IM Hawaii in the early days but doubt if he was telling the truth, but he wasn’t the blatant fraud this guy was.
I’m not sure if this is considered Walter Mitty-type stuff, but there is a triathlete here who claims to be a pro in every way except in performance and speed. This guy is always talking about his pro card, all of his sponsors and has all of them displayed on everything he wears but finishes just above average against a bunch ok amateurs in the midwest. He has a nice bike, nice wheels and that all looks like stuff that come from a pro. But he looks a bit big for a triathlete and has never done well against us amateurs who don’t have pro cards.
But it can make for some good laughs on race morning when we remind each other to get our pro cards to a race of 100-200 people.
