Wal Mart Road Bike

Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/Kent-GMC-Denali-Road-Bike-BRAND-NEW-L-K_W0QQitemZ7178304704QQcategoryZ98084QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Saw it a Wal Mart this weekend. I think it was 140 bucks or so. Poor saps on E-bay are going to pay more than that with shipping on this auction. This is a really cheap, peice of junk. You get what you pay for (maybe less in this case). Remember when you couldn’t find a road bike anywhere? The tide has turned. Now you see road bikes at Wal Mart! Lance factor?

GMC Denali ???

LOL that’s good.

what kind of shifters does that have?

Here it is at WalMart… $147.77

If Wal Mart is carrying these things maybe now I’ll be able to find a spare tube at 10pm. It’ll probably be schrader.

Has anyone seen the Hummer mountain bike being sold? It folds.

21 Speed Shimano drivetrain?

Sweet…we’re moving backward to better shifting!!!

$202 winning bid. So I guess you can make money on Ebay.

hey, it comes with pedals, I had to get my own pedals when I bought my “high end” Litespeed. cheap bastards at ABG wouldn’t throw in set of pedals!

Actually, I think that is a great bike. I’ve been looking for a bike for the winter and this might be perfect. It could be marketed as a ‘disposable’ bike. Imagine traveling somewhere for vacation and wanting to ride, now you can go to Wal-Mart buy a bike for $150, train, and then just leave it in your Hotel room. Or better yet, go somewhere for a race and if you forget your bike you can buy one of these and still race.

If I bid $202 on that piece of crap I’d want my ID kept secret too.

I bet it’s really lightweight too?

how many high end bikes actually are spec’d with pedals included? Do your homework silly.

I agree with your line of thinking for a winter bike. As for a holiday ride, it’s not a bad idea, but I think some people may not also agree that a $150 bike is “disposable” enough to just leave in a hotel room.

But, for a winter bike it looks the goods. If it’s heavy, then all the better. I was actually thinking of looking for the same kind of thing for winter, but where I live (not in the US) the cheapest “road bikes” available in shops are closer to $350.

I purchased a Wal Mart MTB to ride on the beach. It was less than $60. 18 speed grip shift, and a front shock (not really needed on the beach, but good for getting there). In a few years it will rust up and I will dispose of it. Cheaper than getting my good MTB repaired after it rusts up.

All things considered … I’m wondering if that’s a pretty good bike for the price.

Granted, one should never consider even offending one’s arse by even sitting on the hunk of blue snot … but, “I’m just saying”.

How much would Wal-Mart have to pay some of the posters on this forum to spit on this bike? =)

Seriously, I saw this bike online the other day when I was doing a search for “road bikes” (ended up at Tom’s site drooling over the Felt sale). I had the same thoughts as some in this thread … make a good backup … would be nice to have something always connected to the trainer.

Then, I realised, that bike is probably worth more than the used Raleigh road bike I am using now. gulp

Seriously … it’s Wal-Mart … they’re not making bikes to compete with the high-end name-brand companies. (Duh)

If someone wanted to get a bike and give this sport a try, it certainly makes more sense to go this route then to spend thousands on a new road bike only to sell it later on e-bay as “only 120 miles ridden” or some such description.

Cool, it’s got a kickstand.

i did a sprint tri last month with a friend of mine. he rode an old schwinn continental (i think) and yes, it had a kickstand. he rode in his running shoes, too.

his T2 time kicked ass.
