Wahoo Kickr question (2)

Trying to set one up, problem is I have an older version Mac Book Pro and I phone. Told the ANT+ dongle will solve the problem. Should I buy one off the Wahoo site, if so, what exactly am I looking to buy? Struggling to get this thing operational.

Btw, would Trainerroad be my best most easily paired app? I know there are a lot of choices, but looking for user friendly and variety.

Thanks for the help.

Do you have a Garmin ANT+ dongle laying around from a 310 or 910? That would suffice.

That stated, I don’t think a Mac or iPhone/Pad/Touch/Pod will run the KICKR via ANT+. I think only a PC can control the KICKR via ANT+ unless you use Trainer Road and then you can control with Apple + ANT.

Just picked up a Kickr too. Using an older MacBook Pro (early 2009) paired with TrainerRoad via Garmin ANT+ stick. Only a few power drops, seems to have stopped since I started performing spin downs before every ride. Kickr, ERG mode with TrainerRoad = love it!

So a Garmin ANT stick is all need to get going?

Yes, as the other poster mentioned you may already have one if you use other Garmin products.

Wahoo wanted to sell me an ANT+ goggle or whatever to pair. Not necessary?

Sorry I meant Doggle. Ok, on the Wahoo website, they only advertise the Wahoo Key for sale, is that the same thing?

Yes, key = Doggle.

Just to be clear here, this is what you need:
Older non bluetooth macbook → USB ANT+ DONGLE → Wahoo KICKR
Older non bluetooth iPad/iPhone → WAHOO ANT+ KEY → Wahoo KICKR

I’m still pretty sure Trainer Road is needed to run an old non-BT MacBook with a USB ANT+ dongle. I don’t think the Wahoo app/software works with a a non-BT Mac in any capacity.

The Wahoo key works great on my wife’s iPad 2. As for software, Trainer Road and is great. You can also use CycleOps Virtual Training from an iPad or computer. It slaves into the Kickr. Works great for pre-riding a course on which you will race. Tour de Giro is also great, but you have to control the resistance using the Wahoo Fitness app. TdG will receive your wattage but doesn’t control the resistance. It’s still a blast to race on it. Lastly, there is a new virtual racing/training program coming out called Zwift. Supposedly it will slave into the Kickr, too.
