Voter ID Ongoing Debate

Looks as if non-citizens voting is emerging as a major (and perhaps identifiable) source of vote fraud.

"The group, Virginia Voters Alliance, says that it compared how voters in Frederick County filled out jury duty statements compared with their voting records. The group’s investigation found that thousands of people in Frederick County who stated that they are not U.S. citizens on jury duty forms went on to cast votes in elections. Either they failed to tell the truth when they were summoned for jury duty, or they cast illegal votes. "

“Maryland state law makes it easier for non-citizens, both those present legally and those in the country against the law, to vote. Maryland issues drivers licenses to legal and illegal aliens. Driver’s licenses in turn make it easier under the Motor Voter law to register to vote.”

Here’s a Huffpo piece about some problems people are having with voter ID

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/30/texas-voter-id_n_6076536.html

a compendium from another article today:

•A 2012 report by the Pew Center on the States found that 24 million voter registrations—an incredible one-eighth of all registrations nationwide—were either invalid or inaccurate, including almost 3 million people who were registered in more than one state, and more than 1.8 million dead people who were still registered.
•A 2014 study found that two years earlier, some 155,692 registered voters in North Carolina alone had first and last names, birth dates, and final four Social Security number digits that matched those of voters who were registered in other states.
•The same study also found that 35,570 people who had actually voted in North Carolina, had first names, last names, and birth dates dates that matched those of voters who had cast ballots in other states.
•On election day 2013, undercover agents from New York City’s Department of Investigations (DOI) went to 63 different polling places and assumed the names of individuals who were ineligible to vote because they had either died, moved out of town, or been incarcerated. In 61 of the 63 instances, or 97% of the time, the agents were allowed to vote.
•In 2008, Democrat Al Franken won a highly controversial U.S. Senate race in Minnesota by just 312 votes. It was later discovered that 1,099 felons—all legally ineligible to vote—had nonetheless cast ballots in the election, almost exclusively for Franken. Consider this: Without Franken, the Democrats would not have had the 60 Senate votes they needed in order to pass Obamacare in 2010.
•A 2006 study found 77,000 dead people listed on New York’s statewide database of registered voters, and many of them had somehow managed to cast ballots from the grave. One Bronx address in particular was identified as the home of as many as 191 of these registered voter-corpses.
•In Milwaukee in 2004, approximately 5,300 more ballots were cast than voters who were recorded as having shown up at the polls.
•In 2008, election officials nationwide had to discard at least 400,000 bogus voter registrations submitted by ACORN, the infamous, Obama-affiliated criminal operation masquerading as a “community organization.” No one knows how many other invalid registrations were never detected.
•In 2011, a Colorado study found that of the nearly 12,000 non-citizens who were registered to vote in that state, about 5,000 had taken part in the 2010 general election.
•In ten Colorado counties in 2012, voter registrations outnumbered *the *total voting-age population by between 4% and 40%.
•In a forthcoming article in the journal Electoral Studies, university professors Jesse Richman and David Earnest conclude that a significant number of non-citizens—who support Democrats about 80% of the time—vote in U.S. elections, and that “their participation can change the outcome of close races.”

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Looks as if non-citizens voting is emerging as a major (and perhaps identifiable) source of vote fraud.

Most of your list has no direct link to “non-citizens.” Only the last one.

Also, everyone who gleefully trots out “ACORN” somehow forgets to also include Strategic Allied Consultants. Who got off because the employees involved had “no prior criminal history.”

Three different stories/links there. If you look at the first one, you’ll see the a more specific example of an apparant problem with non-citizens voting.

The “voter ID” law debate is over as statistics prove that voter ID fraud is nothing more than a myth that comes from the anus of the Republican party. Therefore, “voter ID” legislation is nothing more than an attempt on the part of the republican party to suppress the democratic vote. Period.

I know it’s a firestorm issue but what is wrong with registering. Then submitting a thumb print or basing it off of tax documents/ssn.

I don’t know but it looks like it’s a modern day vote early vote often.

I just cast my 6 absentee ballots. None of them ever spent any time in my anus.

Studies show, no shocker here, that the fact that people should have to show some sort of proof of being a citizen in order to participate in one of most important rights is not a burden on anyone and is simply common sense.

You would think the race baiters who’s predecesssors fought so hard to be able to vote would fight to protect that right for those it is meant to vote. Hell even famous racist drum beaters are admitting its a crock of BS since it is now easier to vote than ever and you have an unprecedented amout of time to cast your vote.

"Most of these laws are not preventing the overwhelming majority of folks who don’t vote from voting," Obama said during an interview with Rev. Al Sharpton. “Most people do have an ID. Most people do have a driver’s license. Most people can get to the polls. It may not be as convenient’ it may be a little more difficult.”

Of course he can’t help but lie and said “most” instead of “all”.

“The bottom line is, if less than half of our folks vote, these laws aren’t preventing the other half from not voting,” Obama said. “The reason we don’t vote is because people have been fed this notion that somehow it’s not going to make a difference. And it makes a huge difference.”

Our folks?

Americans? Left handed people? Golfers? Men who hate their wives food Nazi habits? Who are these folks?

Of course he can’t help but lie and said “most” instead of “all”.

Some people don’t have IDs. That’s a fact.

Old people who no longer drive.

Survivalists holed up in Montana who’ve gone off the grid.

“Studies show” (as you put it) that the number of people is about 7-11% of the eligible voter population, depending on which study you’re reading.

You’re the liar! YOU LIE!

?

I’d love to see a study that says voter id “is not a burden on anyone.”

I call bs.

Amazing!!!

I wish the media spend a tenth of the effort James O’Keefe does to expose the fraud.

I wish the media spend a tenth of the effort James O’Keefe does to expose the fraud.

Jame O’Keefe IS the media. What you want is for the left to stop trying to steal elections by fooling the stupid. Good luck with that.

I don’t know any of these 7-11% of people.

How many of these 7-11 percent actually vote?

I fully agree that this is an effort by republicans to suppress the vote of democrats. The question is whether the suppressed votes are legal or illegal.

I am guessing that well under 1% of people who vote legally have no ID.

I don’t know any of these 7-11% of people.

Yeah, neither do I.

How many of these 7-11 percent actually vote?

Probably a fairly low %. I’d guess they’re people who are not actively involved in public life.

I am guessing that well under 1% of people who vote legally have no ID.

I speculate you’re probably correct. But that’s enough to fight over, politically.

Do one yourself. Why would an American citizen not have the ID required and how much effort would it take to get a photo ID if required?

Or just pretend and the poll workers will let you vote.

North Carolina election officials repeatedly offered ballots last week to an impostor who arrived at polling places with the names and addresses of ‘inactive’ voters who hadn’t participated in elections for many years.
No fraudulent votes were actually cast: It was the latest undercover video sting from conservative activist James O’Keefe, whose filmmaking résumé reads like a target list of liberal causes.
He famously shuttered ACORN, the community organizing outfit once linked to Barack Obama. He dressed in an Osama bin Laden costume and waded across the Rio Grande from Mexico to America as a show of disdain for U.S. border policy. He videotaped people admitting they sold taxpayer-provided cellphones for drugs, shoes, handbags and spending cash.
Now O’Keefe has strolled into more than 20 voting precincts in Raleigh, Durham and Greensboro, N.C., proffering the names of people who seldom vote in order to test the integrity of the election process. It seems to have failed on a massive scale.
‘I just sign this and then I can vote?’ he asked one poll worker. ‘Yep,’ came the reply.

Nope, everything is just fine.

“Studies show” (as you put it) that the number of people is about 7-11% of the eligible voter population, depending on which study you’re reading.

I don’t know any of these 7-11% of people.

I don’t know any felons, but I know that they exist and that there are many of them.

My point is that whether or not any one of us knows somebody that fits into a certain category doesn’t really mean anything as to whether or not that group exists in any significant number. Just because you don’t know somebody who has no government ID doesn’t mean that there are not a significant number of them. On the other hand, you might actually know a few, but you just don’t know that they don’t have ID.

.

I think you understood my point, but just to be clear, my comment about felons had nothing to do with them having or not having the right to vote. It was just a comment about their existence in the universe even though I personally do not know any.

i.e. saying that since I don’t know any felons, so therefore I doubt that they exist in any significant number is only slightly dumber than saying “I don’t know any people without government ID so therefore I doubt that they exist in significant numbers.”

I suspect if you went to the right neighborhood or area those statements might get turned around. i.e. “I don’t know anybody who ISN’T a felon.”

And though I agree that 7-11% of people not having government ID seems high, I suspect that if you went to the right place you would find significant numbers of people without government ID.

Sidebar. That makes me wonder who is included in the 7-11% statistic. Babies? Toddlers? Pre-school kids? Or is it supposed to be 7-11% of voting age people.

Or is it supposed to be 7-11% of voting age people.

In principle, I’m in favor of having to prove that you are eligible to cast a vote. Voting is an essential and important privilege of citizens of the US. I don’t think it’s out of line to require that people prove that they eligible, especially given the fact that we seem to have so many people in the country who are not eligible (legal and illegal aliens, felons, etc).

That said, we only have so much money and manpower and political will, and passing and enforcing or implementing voter ID laws just doesn’t currently seem like the best use for those limited resources, especially given what seems to be the very small amount of actual fraud being committed.
