I’m an American living in Japan for a few years and have enjoyed my stock Cervelo P3C immensely. Now that off season is approaching, I’m considering stripping it down and doing a custom paint job.
The two best ideas I have are (1) Metallic black highlights, and (2) a WWII Mitsubishi Zero fighter. I’m torn and I need your vote! Pictures attached below (thanks to the magic of Photoshop).
I’m gonna say that the yellow cervelo on the first pic makes it look like a livestrong knockoff- change it to white or something else- and itll have a sleek and stealthy look- while not just being… blah.
The second- dosent do anything for me. and the MYP3C is kinda lame. esp now since its just a P3- everyone will know your gear is old news.
If you go with the Zero, put this decal on your seatpost instead. I have the same decal on my seatpost, and on my Spiuk, I have a decal of the shark’s teeth and leering eye seen on WWII fighter jets nose art.
I am just curious, being American would you have any problems riding a bike in Japan symbolizing one of their warbirds from such an emotional time in human history?
I like the fighter paint job, but agree that the M-Dot has to go.
If I was paying for custom paint job, I would definitely do more than the black/metallic. You can’t even tell there is a difference from the black/metallic unless you look close. It just looks black. And I don’t like the tiny Cervelo logo.
My personal thought is take the top one and, instead of the small font yellow cervelo, make the cervelo larger and in the matte dark gray color of the front and black swathes. Then it will have a sexy stealth look.
I like the Mitsubishi Zero w/out the M-dot, but here’s another idea: paint it white, go to town w/ sharpies, and then clearcoat it. Yes, blatent Peg. ripoff, but something that would look good on a P3 nonetheless.

Both mockups aren’t to nice looking. Here are a bunch of suggestions for you…
I like that guy’s suggestions. Don’t do black: it’s boring, it looks stock, and everyone else does that. If you are going custom, go crazy and get kit to match!
here is what I did with mine. I left the stock format. The painter put in some cool effects in the paint job.
Thats a really awesome P2 you’ve got there.
