Vittoria Pit Stop? (3)

I see people talking about using Vittoria Pit Stop for tubulars. Can this be used on clinchers and if not is there something similar?

Yes. If you have a round hole your odds are probably 70/30 it will work. A slash cut? Don’t waste your time or money. I carry it. No downside. Best.

I had this same question too - does it only work on clinchers with certain types of tubes inside (e.g. butyl, latex, etc.)? Or will it work with all types of tubes? I got a few cans for Christmas and ride clinchers - not sure if I should keep it around or give it to friends who ride tubulars…

You can do a search and hear people’s accounts. I would put it closer to 50/50 working. Did not work for me but I later realized I had a slash.

I’ve been thinking about getting some to carry so I don’t need to use the cell phone to call my wife to deliver a new wheel when I get a flat. it’ll work fine with my Jet90 training wheels, but will it work with a Zipp disc, due to the wheel cutout for the valve. Can you bend the valve far enough out to inflate a flat on a disc? Would I need to carry a 90 degree crack pipe for a disc?

Good call! I usually carry two tubes with me. Once I had 3 flats and had to call my wife to come get me. Once. I’d walk barefoot through glass before I’d do that again!

Actually she doesn’t care at all and is happy to help. I have 2 wheels sitting in our office ready for her to bring to me!! : )

So how does it work? I guess you get a flat then use the pit stop and then inflate or does that pit stop also do the inflating? Also, is there a seperate can for the tubular and clinchers or is there only one product and it works for both? Thanks to those who have replied.

the Pit Stop both seals and inflates. Ideally, you’d get a flat hop off the bike, pull out anything stuck in your tire (obviously) then open the valve and engage it.

You should ride and/or spin the wheel ASAP after that to enable the sealant to work it’s magic.

There’s not a separate clincher and tubular can, it’s all the same stuff.

Cool, thanks. Just what I was wanting to find out.

Has anyone used PitStop on wheels with valve extensions? I’m racing on 81mm rims, so I would be putting the PitStop on a valve extension, and not the valve itself.

Thanks,
Doug

Yep, it worked fine w/ an extension on an SDV66.

Also to earlier question I’ve not used with a disc and I’m skeptical that the nozzle is long & flexible enough to let you bend it to get around the corner, I’d probably look into finding an elbow adapter.

Now that I think about it a little hose like what Lezyne puts in their new mini pumps would be perfect but the Lezyne one wont work b/c of the fitting to screw into the pump. Hmmm, there’s a new product idea for those guys. Lezyne pumps rock btw.

just used a vittoria pit stop at 70.3 Singapore
(i did not have a tubular spare…short race, and i was hoping not to get a flat

anyway, the problem with the vittoria pit stop is that it depends very much on the kind of flat you get…
for me it was obviously a too big hole/cut in the tubular…and it allowed me to ride for 5k more before to get completely flat…

therefore it could be good stuff, but bring a spare tubular anyway!

Given that you have a small round puncture, and if the Pit Stop works and seals the tire, How long can you go without having to switch out the whole tire (tubular)??

Does it work with the zipp funny valves or are you best with presta extensions for this?

I always ride with Pit Stop not matter the distance. I got a staple in my tire in a sprint last year and I was able to get back to transition before it went flat. After the race I “practiced” with the Pit Stop after pulling the staple out, it looked like it would work but it slowly went flat over the next 5 minutes. If I get something in my tire (staple, nail, thorn, etc) I’m going to leave it in when I use the Pit Stop, I think it will work better. Worst case the staple falls out and I’m in the same spot I would have been if I pulled it out…
