Vision Tech Aero Brake Levers (1)

Just got my new Isaac Joule and one of the Vision Tech aero brake levers rattles like a SOB. It appears to be caused by the metal pin in the hinge. One rattles the other doesn’t. Have I got a bad brake lever or is this common with these? Any solutions? Thanks.

Is it the metal pin, or just the plastic cap on the end of the bar? I’ve had issues with the latter, and yeah it’s annoying. My shop tried to fix it with super glue, but I think I want to try wrapping a rubber band around the plug portion of the cap to snug things up a little.

I just cut took a length of electrical tape and wrapped it around the bar so that it covered both the plastic end cap and the brake lever clamp where the two intersect. Not the most elegant solution but it quiets the noise from the plastic covers pretty well.

I asked the guy at the Vision Tech booth at Wildflower about the rattling. He said it was a design problem, that they had lots of complaints, that it couldn’t be fixed and was something to live with, and that they would hopefully correct it in the future.

I solved the problem by purchasing a new Kaliber with HED bars w/the integrated levers. I guess could have used duct tape.

just a very little bit of silly puddy or ticky tac on the inside where the cap mounts will cool that rattle
.

No it won’t. I initially thought it was the end cap, wrapped some teflon plumbers tape inside the cap, changed the rattle a little but it is definitely the lever itself, offending one has heaps more lateral play than it’s quiet brother on the other side, must be a problem with the pivot/pin thingy but it’s a pain. Anyone pursued a replacement under warranty?

well, you gotta give FSA some credit for trying to be honest about the whole thing–that is a rarity for a lot of companies.

yes, this lever thing does appear to be design issue. but the thing that baffles me more than a bit is, with a company of the resources of FSA, you would think that they took the time to do at least some ‘real world’ product testing. because if they did, one would think that this problem would have revealed itself pretty quickly.

off topic, trek/bontrager will be introducing a new TT lever this fall that looks very slick and well designed. lance and i think the rest of his team used them on their tdf tt bikes. how the lever will function remains to be seen, but it might be worth checking out.
