I just installed the basebar/ clip on combo from Vision onto my P3 last night. I had the Hed one piece on since last year and was looking for a change. Buildup went well, very easy and quick. I had the P3 out this AM for a 2 hr ride before work and all I can say is this. This is a sweet setup. Solid, no flex, you can easily get low and aero on these bars and the pads are very comfortable. Looking at the system on the bike, it is very hard to even tell that it is a clip on basebar combo. Ill have pics up later if anyone is interested in seeing the setup.
Also, when I was at R&A Cycles yesterday(were I always shop) the had a large (VERY LARGE) amount of the base bars and clip ons available. Also, for the drool factor, they had 4 HED frames hanging, plus Aegis T2 frames in several colors and sizes and Cervelo P3s, Duals and soloists. IF anyone is interested in getting a HED 3D disk, Phil also has A LOT of 650cs in stock, no 700c tho.
When you get a chance put the pics up that way we can the setup. I am also interested in the bars. What type of brake levers are you using? I had read somewhere that you can only use the Vision brakes on these bars?
You can use other levers on the VT base bars. I have a set of Tektro levers on mine. Admittedly it took a rat tail file to clean out the paint etc. to make them fit but it was not too big of a hassle.
Really like the bars used them for the first time this week end in a duathlon with no complaints.
P.S. Thanks to Tom D. for Fedexing a pair to me on short notice.
My ‘oh so wonderful’ girlfriend gave me a set for my birthday Friday. I went to put them on my bike Saturday night (for a Sunday morning du), and realized that they wouldn’t fit into my old school, non removable faceplate stem. Of course I realized this after I took apart my current setup. Fortunately, I did check to make sure that my bar end shifters and Syntace Space Control brake levers would fit, and found out that the brakes levers wouldn’t. As mentioned, they could probably be made to fit, but the Vision/FSA levers look pretty trick, so I am getting some of those.
I am using the new Profile levers (QS2) They are nice because they have a return spring built in them. They fit perfectly in the bars, but I cut down the handles to be like my old HED bars (like Armstrong as well, no upturn) I like the feel of that better. After I cut them down, I had to dremel out the inside, but only very little, and the levers fit in like a glove.
My new Visiontech base bar and aerobar are waiting at the LBS for me to pick up. I’ll be installing them tonight and tomorrow on my Zipp 2001. I use the Dia Comp 188 brake levers that are cut and drilled out.
I’ve got the new Vision Tech/FSA base bar with Easton Clip-ons cut down and the Vision Tech Brake levers. I love the set up. Had Profile Aero lites before but this set up is much cleaner and the Easton Clip-on’s fit me better than the Vision tech clip ons. The pads on the easton’s are awesome. Anyway, I really like the base bar and for the money it’s hard to beat. I actually went into my full service tri shop to purchase the Hed one piece but after trying them and then trying this set up, this set up is much more comfortable for me.
