Vision Brake Cable

Hello:

I need to replace the rear brake cable on my bike and I use Vision Aero Brake Levers. My LBS told me to use a gear cable, but it seems too skinny and doesn’t get securely held in my Cervelo brake. Does anyone know where I can pickup Vision tech cables. I don’t need the whole kit just the cable.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,

I just had to get a set, I bought a set of levers on eBay not knowing I’d need special cables.
Trisports has them

They are a pain, those specific Vision tech cables - basically a brake cable with a derailler hed. Best would be to use a brake cable, and slowly file the head down to size (use a grinding wheel). This way, you get the beefier brake cable for safety (although a rear brake using a shifter cable would probably be OK for a tri bike - that is for you to decide).

Colorado Multisport has (or at least had about 6 months ago) sets of the cables without the housings.

The head on a regular brake cable is soft and can be filed to shape for the Vision’s. It is easy to do. Derailleur cables are not a good idea for brakes, they can’t handle the force applied.

Also, some on some brake models, a derailleur cable is not thick enough for the binder block on the brake to grip. The Cervelo-branded Tektro brakes come to mind.

I changed my front cable last night before a race this morning. I used what I had on hand - a regular road brake cable. Works fine, but it doesn’t look as good. You can file/grind it down if that’s important to you.

I have used derailleur cables as Vision brake cable replacements and never had any issues, as have many others without any issues that have been reported. Ihave even locked the brakes up to test them and they have always worked 100 percent.
