Vision Base bare is totally awsome/now how the freak do I re-route the cables?

Okay, just got my new Vision Basebar. Very sexy. Curves in all the right places. It’s light, stiff, and has got to be more aero. I don’t know what I’m gonna do about the graphics though. They’re fast and sexy, but the only other red I have on my bike is the faded stitching on Azoto.

Anyway, my question, is there a good place on line that talks about re-routing cables? I’m not real worried about the brakes, that seems simple enough, but I’m not 100% sure on how to re-route the shifters. (When the LBS built up my bike they decided it would just be simpler to wrap the cables under the tape and let them flop where ever they would.)

Also, anyone got a favorite bar tape? Muchas Gracias.

I’m still trying to find the stuff Easton uses for its bar. Awesome, tacky when wet, padded. They say it’s replaceable, but no one stocks it. Until then, I use any cork tape I can get for a decent price. Profile works well for me.

I like profile bar tape. Has a good feel and does NOT have that sticky backside which is a royal pain in the arse to remove. Wish other bar tape makers did this.

But my favorite tap for the aerobars is the old skool Cateye black cotton tape. Its light and the perfect grippiness when your hands are all sweaty on race day. Trust me, its hard to find. Another option would be to find some hockey stick grip tape at a hockey shop.

As for re-routing the shift cables… kinda depends on which aerobar you’re using. If you’ve got a drill, then you might want to consider routing the cables inside the bar. I fixed up my roomate’s ride… drilled his Syntace C2’s to route internally. Looks really nice.

If you’re interested, email me and I’ll try to send you a photo of this. Anything to help out a Gopha.

I’ve got SL’s. They’ve got holes in the bottom that look like they were put there for cable routing. If that’s not what they are for, what kind of drill did you use?

Also (to anyone) my biggest question is what do you do with the shifters to re-route the cables with out unhooking the derailure? Is it just a simple task of unscrewing something?

Anybody used gel backed bar tape? Is it cushiony enough?
