Virenque retires

Cyclingnews.com reports Richard Virenque has announced his retirement. Dispite his murky past, I enjoyed watching him race … he could climb ‘like an angel’.

Aside, in the mid 90s, I had a pair of his (ugly) signature Carnac shoes … hideously white, red and yellow. Gawd, i loved those shoes. Replaced them 2 years ago w/ Sidis after they fell apart.

What a way to go out…in style…7th KOM jersey and still on top of his game. Unlike M Jordan…who seems poised to unretire yet again. Always leave them wanting more and wondering…what if. I hear the big Estonian Jaan Kirsipuu has retired as well. Bummer…I really wanted to get his Estonian National Champion AG2R jersey.

Ok, How wierd is this, my Festina watch stopped yesterday, first time in the six years I’ve owned it.

It’s creeping me out man.

Wonder what that garage sale will look like…a pharmacological cornucopia!

I’ll second that Tibbs, good riddance to Mr “I HAVE NEVER used Performance Enhancing Drugs”
.

'eventually admitted having used drugs…unlike others…"

My recollection is that “eventually” included a press interview with tears and cries of protestation of his innocence.

Am I wrong?

What about Mr. Tyler “I swear on tugboat’s grave” Hamilton? How long do you think he’ll drag this?

Anyhoo I enjoyed watching Virenque too. I wasn’t around (well I was but I was like 8 yos) the whole Festina affair, so his image isn’t as tainted to me. He was a really good climber and he seems like a nice guy (from Eurosport’s ‘Behind the Teams’).

Thanks.
