Vineman - What is best route from Swim to Windsor High School? (for spectators, via Car)

My family and a buddy’s wife will be picking up his truck from the swim start and then driving to Windsor High School. This will be around noon. What is the best route to take? Considering there is a little event going on during that timeframe.

River Rd East to HWY 101
101 North to the Central Windsor Exit
Left off the exit into town
Option 1 – Left on Windsor up to north entrance to Windsor High School (traffic control may allow no left turn here briefly) and/or parking may be limited at that time
Option 2 – Turn right into downtown Windsor, park there, walk to he high school

Best …

Easiest Route would be River Road East to Highway 101. Highway 101 North to Shiloh Road Exit. Shiloh Road West to Windsor Road. Windsor Road North to Windsor High School (on the left).

Slightly shorter route would be River Road East to Laughlin Road. Laughlin Road North (windy) to Shiloh Road. Shiloh Road West to Windsor Road, etc.

Thanks for your help! See you this weekend

I’ve actually found coming into Windsor from 101 to be a hassel with the traffic controls.

I go back up river rd., left onto Wholer (It sneaks up on you, look for it). About a mile up I go right onto Eastside. At the stop sign stay left on Eastside. Two miles or so up Eastside make a right onto Windsor River Rd. The first stop sign is Starr Rd. Go right onto Starr(past new homes under construction) Left onto Burgundy, at the roundabout go 3/4 of the way around onto Decanter Circle. Go down Decanter alongside the school. After the hard right turn, park your car. There is a gate into the back side of the school right adjacent to some portable classrooms in the parking lot.

Stop giving out directions to our secret back roads! That would defintely be a more scenic option. It is actually spelled Wohler and named after the old bridge. Just upstream from that bridge was the famous nudey beaches that were so popular back in the 70’s. That section would actually be a great area for open water swimming but they close access to the park there during the summer since the water intakes for most of Sonoma and North Marin are there and I guess they worry we will pee in the water.

Just another useless factoid from the locals…

Bonkmonkey … though other options in theory are good you will (at those times be dealing with bike race course traffic on Eastside (though going opposite direction the roads are narrow and twisty) and especially Shiloh as you will be driving with bikes on Shiloh and on to Windsor Rd as they approach T2. Therefore, please, for the athletes sake take 101 North to Central Windsor for the safest route.

Many Thanks …

Yeah, I understood your reasoning and gave those directions to my wife. Thanks.

Please do not do this on race day as it’s the full VM bike course heading out for the second lap.
I always take the Slusser/Mark West/Windsor Rd. back way.

P.S. Anyone have an extra spectator who might drive my truck back to the high school some time during the day???

I have the F150 with room for you and your bike so we can drop your truck off at the high school before the race.
We can work it out Friday at the expo.

Dave

Great!!! Thanks.

I was unaware of the bikes that would be there. If you get out within a reasonable amount of time you should be able to get through there without bikes on the road, but if you are running later in the day, by all means, stay off the Eastside route for the safety of everyone.

My son is only 8, but if that kid from Indiana Jones could drive, why not Ben?

See you at the expo.

Well, the mini KEJ/Katy tried to drive it once and she’s nearly 8.

Um, that didn’t go so well.
