Vineman Vs. Timberman

Just wondering what STers think about the two races in comparison to crowd support, course difficulty etc. Doing both this summer and will be my first distances above an olympic. Any opinions on what to expect???

I have not done Timberman but did Vineman 1/2 last year and am doing the full Vineman this year. The Vineman half has good crowd support at the start and around Windsor school where T2 is–the run goes through there twice as well. On the bike course, there is one big hill with a few people cheering. The remainder is a peaceful ride through wine country. The swim is a very peaceful river swim, not at all chaotic. I thought the run was the toughest part. It is very hilly. It begins around a sub-division with homeowners staring at you (not cheering) then moves to the country with several very steep hills. The aid stations were great and fully stocked though. Good luck!

I did Timberman last year. I had a great time (slow race time: great experience). I have never done Vineman. Swim was very choppy, but there were boats at the turns for easy sighting. The support was excellent. Not too many spectators on the bike. Hilly course, but nothing too steep. The aid stations volunteers were very friendly and fun. The run had a lot of extras to help pass the time. It was very well shaded. Hilly, though. Good expo. Get here early to walk around. You will enjoy the race.

The area where I stayed, right on the lake, was beautiful. It would have been romantic if my wife had been able to come.

I wore my Garmin and uploaded to Motionbased. Go to www.motionbased.com ant search under “timberman run” and “timberman bike” to get the profiles.

Good luck and have fun.

I was looking forward to the Vineman this year but i pulled out a couple of weeks ago because of a car accident. Instead of doing Vineman this year i am doing the New York City Triathlon which is an Olympic distance.
