Anyone have a link to the Vineman 70.3 results? Here is a link to the “race coverage”, but as you can see, there are quite a few gaps…

I did the race. Hot day. Water level was so low in some areas that you had to stand up and walk. All that said an awesome race. Apparently Craig Alexander and Luke Bell both ran the half marathon in 1:09! Their first two mile run time was 10:04. I am very curious as to how Alexander will fare in Kona.
Hot day.<<
Over 90F when some of us hit the run.
PR bike for me but I really melted on the run. Good training day, but if it’s that hot in 2 weeks, I am in trouble.
Great to see so many STers!!! Big bummer to Mike Donia and his crash, but luckily it wasn’t as bad as first thought.
Results should be at www.vineman.com later.

Congratulations of your PR on the bike Cathy. Are you doing the full Vineman in two weeks?
Thanks. Yes, full VM in two weeks, praying for cooler weather!

Cathy
Good job. Hope to see you in 2 weeks.
Good job today Cathy! It was definitely HOT on the run. At times out there it was all I could do just to keep running. By the way, I actually started with my wave this morning!
Hey Cathy … timers said they should have stuff uploaded tonight … yeah, high temp got to 91 today, crispy for those later in the day!
MEN
1 - Craig Alexander NEW COURSE RECORD - 3:50:49 (unofficial)
2 - Luke Bell @ 12 seconds back
3 - TJ Tollakson

1 - Samantha McGlone 4:16:39 NEW COUSRE RECORD (unofficial)

Craig Alexander and Luke Bell came of the bike 8:45 & 8:55 (respectively)down to Lieto off the bike, Craig ran 1:09:33 and Bell ran 1:09:39 and the two were never seperated by more than 30 seconds on the run! TJ Tollakson had a stellar day as well coming off the bike behind Lieto and running quite well. Lieto broke Steve Larsens bike record! Crowie and Bellie were chasing Lieto and Tollakson like there was no tomorrow … the race finally came together at 9.5 miles when the four were basically within 10 seconds of each other! Crowie hangs on for the win with Bell chasing!
Michellie led the ladies out of the water all the way to T2. Sam came off the bike 45 seconds down and gradually brought Michellie back. Melissa Ashton & Alexis Waddel moved forward on the run an Dede hang touhg in fifth!
Best …
Dave,
My first Vineman event. Freakin sweeet. You guys do a great job!! Thanks for an awesome day.
I had an incredible day at the Vineman 70.3 as I was over half an hour quicker than last time! Now if I can just figure out how to swim, my times would be nice, but still I’m happy with my performance today as I cruised to a sub 5 hour finish with plenty of room to spare.
I did vineman today and was very disapointed in how many people got up and ran in the swim. There was no need for that crap! I swam the hole thing and I am sure many others did. I hit the swim turn around and looked up and saw 15 to 20 people running. They got a rest and pulled away from me. That was BS, I could of done the same but the sport is swim/bike/run. I got pleasure from knocking someone over who stood up in front of me.
The car traffic was insane and impeded racing. The volunteers were great but the frickin traffic was annoying and I almost got run over by a tour bus while passing. I have done 42 tri’s in the last 3 years and never had to deal with traffic like this. I couldn’t pass when I wanted many times and was eyed for drafting because I herd a motorcycle coming behind me and wouldn’t pass because I feared the traffic. little did I know it was the race official. I saw many cyclists have to slow down to wait for cars. To me this is not a race, thats a saturday ride. i was very diappointed. I know the place has grown alot but something has to be done. All these people pay alot of money and put money in the local economy so for one day a year can these roads be blocked! Ironman makes alot of money. I will say all the volunteers and people were great!
What time did you start? I was in the 8th wave and traffic wasn’t too bad (normal traffic of everyone’s friends/family leaving G’ville, so traffic in the first 5 miles). Just one place was there any traffic on note–coming down off of Chalk Hill an SUV couldn’t pass someone going slow downhill so I got stuck behind it.
Note to Trifaster Dave: Every aid station but ours ran out of coke. I can’t drink Gatorade, so I was screwed and was on water only. As usual, fantastic volunteers.

Was the run a little short? Looks like lots of run PRs out there for both pros as well as AGers.
Does anyone know who the guy/gal was that crashed on Shiloh near the golf course? That looked nasty…the chopper got there just before I came up to it. It was scary to see the rider laying out on the road covered in a blanket.
As for complaints about traffic, I started at 8:06 and actually had a great ride. Traffic was not all that bad and I actually saw little drafting. I think being a point to point race helps with this.
It was pretty toasty out there but I don’t think it hit 90 nearly 4:00 . The official weather tracking station is at the airport (which we ran around). Teaps below follow the time (then dew point, then humidity):
22 Jul 3:53 pm 90 59 36 S 10 10.00 CLR 1013.3 29.94 29.814 OK 22 Jul 2:53 pm 89 60 38 S 7 10.00 CLR 1014.0 29.96 29.834 OK 22 Jul 1:53 pm 89 59 37 SW 8 10.00 CLR 1014.4 29.98 29.854 OK 22 Jul 12:53 pm 84 59 43 SSE 7 10.00 CLR 1015.1 30.00 29.874 OK
Mike, unless it was 100 degrees, and a no legal wet suit swim, some have no idea how hot that race can get.

- No, people don’t pay a lot of money.
- The contribution to the local economy is minimal. The benefit is spread over a much wider area, where people stay, and even then, we’re talking triathlon rather than Formula One kind of contribution.
- There’s NO WAY to block those roads along the bike leg. It’s the only way in/out. Note that the run course was semi-blocked mostly and fully blocked in a long section.
As for the temps, I’ve raced it 2x, and observed this year. This was about the same as last year, and cooler than the year before. The difference this year was it seemed to be warmer and super-sunny earlier, so the late waves saw less disadvantage than “normal”.
Was the “tour” bus on highway 128 through Alexander Valley? If so that was a bus going to our wonderful Indian casino. They are a sovereign nation and can pretty much do what ever the hell they want…and they do. Not sure when you passed through the valley but I didn’t think the traffic was all that bad. Keep in mind Sonoma County’s largest economic driver is the wine biz…not triathlon. The wineries are a billion dollar plus biz for the county so traffic associated with that biz will always take prescedent over our little triathon. We actually get much more respect from the powers that be than we used to…just ask Dave.

That was mike d.
Treated and released, thank god. Maybe Kylie will post when they get home. She left a message on my phone after the race and said he wasn’t as injured as first thought.

Dave - For a guy who does almost all of his biking and running between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., it was HOT!
I took a gamble that it wouldn’t get very hot and only did one bike and run session in the heat - clearly that strategy didn’t work out very well because I absolutely crumbled on the run (I wound up running about 14 minutes slower this year when I was in the last starting wave as compared to last year when I was in the 2nd or 3rd wave out.) If nothing else, it was yet another learning experience.
