Motel 6 for the win.
three star bump.
The last few years we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Windsor. Close to T2, good location.
PS nice but not 3+ stars.
Close to the start, or the finish?
Stay in a B&B. Lots of them and much nicer than a hotel.
No 3 stars in Windsor but there is new Hampton Inn which is very close. If you want something really nice, check out Vintners Inn which is just minutes away: http://www.vintnersinn.com/ or there is Hilton in north Santa Rosa in Fountaingrove area. There are some real high zoot and big $ places in Healdsburg but they will cost more than your race entry.
I think the Rd sent out an email saying that there were 2 or 3 other events/fairs/concerts going on that same weekend in close proximity to the race, and that hotels would probably book fairly quickly.
Rent a house on the Russian River and amke avacation out of it. I’ve done it two out of the three years I’ve raced up there. I also stayed at the Hyatt in Santa Rosa, very nice. It all depends do you want to be near the start or the finish? I prefer being away from the cities and out by the river.
I think Windsor is OK, but over in Guerneville & by the Russian River it was way gay. Kissing, hugging & holding hands all over the place. I didn’t know & brought my kids last year for the full Vineman. All I wanted to do was get out of town.
Yeah, I saw a bunch of guys with shaved legs wearing spandex unitards running around all day Saturday.
I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express at the northern end of Santa Rosa. Probably not 3 stars, but it was just fine for me. Its just off the 101, and maybe a 5 mile drive through the back roads to the turnaround of the run.
Stayed several years ago at a hotel across the street from the expo area (can’t remember name)…some holiday inn type motel…nothing fancy but close to expo, lots of dining and not far drive race morning. The hotel was packed with athletes. I went with a group including my wife and we actually checked out race morning and then moved to the Marriott (renaissance maybe) in Sonoma to do wine tasting. It is centrally located between Sonoma and Napa and IT WAS AWESOME! We have done the B&B thing in Napa twice. If/when we go back, we’ll def be doing the Marriott again. It is a resort and pricey, but if you can swing it and are married, etc. your wife will love you for it! Send her to the spa!
my 2 cents
Try http://www.hotellarose.com The hotel is in the middle of Railroad square in Santa Rosa used to stay there years ago when I did Vineman many times.
