Vick

“Through this situation, I have found JESUS.”

That’s a direct quote from the latest professional athlete turned convicted felon, Michael Vick.

Unbelievable. Why does Jesus ALWAYS have to enter the equation, especially for black guys who get busted?

On the Brightside, Evangelical Christians rejoice. The folks at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs have a qualified replacement to take over for Ted Haggard!

More on this later as I consider what the talking heads have to say…

I never realised how dumb the guy actually is. Lucky for him he is dumb enough to say exactly what his attorneys told him to say, and he didn’t try to wing it, like so many before him, only to dig their own graves. His smart attorneys know that to limit his damage, he has to appear to take full responsibility for his actions, accept Jesus into his life and devote it to god now, and claim tomake himself a better person. He said all the right things to soothe the masses that were already inclined to feel sorry for him, and now he can count on the religious christians out there for his conversion. He said nothing to infuriate his detractors any more than they already are, and unless the judge has 5 dogs at home, he should be off in a year or two. He then can resume with god’s blessing his calling to football. WHat a sham, but people will actually buy into it and he will once again be the 100 million dollar man…What a country!!!

He’s hitting all the right notes.

“I have found Jesus”

“I turn my life over to God”

“Dog fighting is a terrible thing and I reject it”

Etc, etc, etc.

I was listening to a sports radio show today that summed it up pretty well in saying that this is, as is the case with many legal issues, all about “negotiating” the truth. Not about getting to the real truth, but about negotiating the terms of what will be on the record as the “truth.” The PR campaign for his return, already in full effect.

I almost forgot, he is most sorry to the children…Especially those that wear his jersey… Gotta have those children in there when you are trying to tug at the heartstrings of Americans…

“Through this situation, I have found JESUS.”

Funny comment on AOL regarding this story: “Why do people always find Jesus only after the cops arrive?”

I am really stunned by this guy. Three years into a 10 year, $130 million contract, millions of dollars more a year from sponsors, and it is all going away. The Atlanta Falcons are going to go after $22 million in signing bonuses, which I have to think Vick doesn’t have on hand. The gambling incriminations are still lingering, making it doubtful that he will ever play in the NFL again.

And Monty, the judge, already with a reputation for being hard-nosed on sentencing, has one of those powerpuff dogs, bichon something. I don’t see any leniency there.

Fuck him. Let him rot. If he has found Jesus, then he can burn in hell too.

I suppose you feel the same way about Leonard Little?

I wonder what his sentence will be. Not to downplay dog fighting, the sentence should be less than what your typical rapist or child molester gets, which ain’t much.

In exchange for a plea bargain what if he did something that would try to reduce the popularity of dog fighting? Something like PSAs, not shown to an average audience, but played to a “target” audience. Would/could that diminish the popularity of the mistreatment of dogs? Or would he just lose street cred? If so, would that be good enough?

I’m not saying the guy shouldn’t be punished, but in addition to the punishment if he could give back to society, wouldn’t that be the optimal solution? Personally, I am not a Vick fan nor do I follow the NFL much. My interest is mainly as a dog lover, and I would prefer this stuff that is done to dogs to stop. I’m not sure that just putting him jail does much toward that end. Then again, I don’t understand how folks do this to begin with. As such, it might be difficult for me to believe his sincerity in such a scenario.
