Vick Indicted

Along with 3 others on 2 Federal counts. From the Indictment:

“On or about March of 2003, Parnell A Peace, (one of the other 3 indicted) after consulting with Vick about the female pit bull’s condition executed the losing dog by wetting the dog down with water and electrocuting the animal.”

The whole thing is a pretty grim document.

Great. I hope more of these pricks get arrested. Clinton Portis too-for some reason he’s popular here but if I see one more dumb ass fan wearing his jersey on the metro I’m going to go postal. Abusing animals like this is just a smidge lower than child abuse in my world.

Please let me know if you have a link to the actual document.

I’ve got a pretty good idea for some justice. What a fucker.

I have to say, I’m constantly amazed at the level of disconnect people display when it comes to animal cruelty. The level of outrage that dog fighting generates is appropriate, as people are using, abusing and killing these intelligent animals for their own pleasure, when alternate means of entertainment exist. I just wonder why most people don’t apply that same logic when social animals of even higher intelligence are tortured and killed for their own pleasure, when other sources of animal protein exist.

Perhaps it isn’t so much about the animal as it is our intolerance for human behavior we find distasteful.

It’s just one battle in the war on many fronts. Dogs are near the top in my world, but right below humans. All forms of abuse are bad, I’m pretty sure that’s a solid statement here.

What social animal has a higher intelligence?

Pigs.

If animal cruelty laws didn’t exempt livestock, the majority of pork producers could be charged with similar crimes. But business is business, and out-of-sight is truly out-of-mind. We don’t tolerate dog fighting in our society, but certainly not because we object to animal cruelty. Of course, that’s the lie we comfort ourselves with, but any thinking person knows better. The truth is that we don’t tolerate cruelty to dogs because we don’t care to eat them.

(I’m right there with you on the dog issue; they’re about as close as you can get to perfect beings in my book.)

Thanks for the document. “buried car axles”, (and that’s page 5, at which point I stopped) fry the sons of bitches. I don’t need another reason to punt the NFL.

Geez,

I missed the headlines. When did this story come out about these scumbags ?

So what’s left?

With Vick’s money…get a high priced lawyer roll on a bunch of people who are running current fighting rings in exchange for immunity or pre-trial diversion.

I have been following this story right along. One of the interesting things is that the Feds have been the ones who are doing the investigation. I suppose that it could have something to do with crossing State lines or something, but this has not really been adequately explained. I know that Vick’s lawyer has addressed this and has said that it is because of “Vick’s popularity” and because he is a “black superstar.” I guess that I wasn’t aware that those were reasons for a Federal investigation.

After reading some other articles, it seems that there were some intimations that the local authorities might be involved in some criminal activity too. I haven’t quite gotten around to reading the entire indictment to see if this was brought out.

If anyone knows why this has been a Federal investigation, I would like to know.

Go Joey!

Bernie

It’s Federal because one of the charges has to do with interstate commerce and the use of said commerce to pursue an illegal activity, namely, violations of Virginia’s gambling laws.

Thanks. I knew I could have an answer in less than 10 minutes. Now…back to the iPhone review!

Conspiracy to Travel in Interstate Commerce in Aid of Unlawful Activities and to Sponsor a Dog in an Animal Fighting Venue.

Right, because pig farmers starve their pigs, put them in a cage and let them fight to see which one is stronger, then they electrocute the weaker one and bury him out back. This seems to be an emotional issue for you so I don’t really expect this to turn out all that well.

Mmmmm, I think I will get some BBQ pork for lunch!!

Pulled pork sammiches are sooo tasty!

Oh yeah, maybe I will get a corn on the cob wrapped in bacon or pork-n-beans for a side!

So what’s left?
I predict it won’t be long before PETA/Humane Society and standing in Goodell’s office trying to get Vick off the field. “Roger, if Mike Vick plays one game this year, we will go to all the NFL’s major sponsors and complain.”
Personally, I think Mike Vick would be the perfect example. Give this guy a huge suspension and fine and tell the league that it does not matter who you are or how important you think you are.

Not to totally hijack the thread but:

From The Simpsons - Lisa declaring she’s going vegan:

Homer: “You’re not going to eat any meat?”
Lisa: “No!”
H: “Pork?”
L: “No!”
H: “Ham?”
L: “No!”
H: “Bacon?”
L: “No! Dad! Those are all from the same animal!!”
H: (condescendingly) “Heh heh. Suuure Lisa. A wonderful magical animal.”

"“Roger, if Mike Vick plays one game this year, we will go to all the NFL’s major sponsors and complain.” "

That’s where it is. Vick gets paid by, among others, Nike, Coca-Cola, Rawlings, and Kraft. Does anyone think PETA will hesitate to put pressure on the Falcons or any of those sponsors?
