For many years I have had 3 solid meals during the day and a healthy snack (eg apple) every 2-3 hours.
Last week I have reduced the evening meal to something light eg. a salad and an egg or a protein shake or a rice cake with peanut butter & a banana.
I seem to sleep much better and it has not reduced my energy level. It might also help get rid off the last 1-2 kgs I would like to shred.
Usually in the morning before morning workout I do not feel hungry but I usually have a cup of coffee, a fruit, maybe a cliff bar or a rice cake with peanut butter. Then after the workout usual healthy and rich breakfast.
I am considering going coffee and gel only.
Wanted to know what other light-evening-meal-people are having, if anything, before the morning workout.
I consume 2/5th of my calories at breakfast, 2/5th of my calories at lunch and 1/5th of my calories at dinner. I do not eat after 5pm if at all possible but if I do it is normally an apple, dried fruit or some grapes.
This can change a bit as I do not normally sit down for breakfast or lunch during the week, so it would be 4/5th of my calories before 2pm and then just something small for dinner.
My workouts are normally ofter work but I work very early so that is 2pm and after. Swimming in the morning always on an empty stomach.
Seems to work for me as I have dropped 14 lbs in the last 3-4 months which is very nice.
Also eating way healthier, smaller portions and doing something every day.

Thx
Before a morning workout, I may sometimes drink a coffee and will have a banana, but that’s on the way to my workout. I do my workout, then have a protein shake (fruit or veggie). An hour later, I have a yogurt or some other snack.
The night before, I’m usually just eating a meal with my family. Usually some kind of lean meat with veggies (or maybe a salad) and some other sides (rice, pasta, etc.)
For me, fueling AFTER the workout seems to be most important.
Almond butter with honey on wheat toast with 2x shots espresso before my workouts early morning. Otherwise I feel really hungry 15min into my workout. Then a good breakfast after workout.
Eat nothing. Body has enough glycogen to get through 90 or so minutes. Might even help train the body for fat burning as a fuel source. However, we are all an N=1.
Depends on the workout and what part of your schedule you are in. If you are in base season doing long, slow workouts eat nothing. If you are in a major build phase doing more carb burning workouts/training for shorter races you should eat something to stabilize your blood sugar. If you are training for an IM you should be able to do a 60-90min run without bonking as long you stay in the correct HR zone.
If I train at 5-6am, I usually wake up 30min earlier and have a pack of Jelly Belly or a Honey Singer waffles, then get ready for workout. It keeps me going through workout, and then I eat breakfast. Maybe not optimal, but it works for me and I’m not going to change something that works.
Like another posted said what kind of workouts are you doing? For most people doing shorter workouts without eating is fine. It really depends on you though. At what point does the quality of your workout start to diminish? Are you close to an A race where the added stress is going to hurt rather than help? Can you cut food somewhere else?
I can’t eat before running, so for a.m. runs = nothing. Ran 10 miles this morning on an empty stomach and felt fine, although I did stop at my car at mile 7 and drank some energy drink.
