Very funny - triathlon hits the geek market

http://www.promega.com/triathlon/

Quite what this promotion has to do with triathlon is escaping me. The collecting card is something else! then again if it makes more people get out on their bikes in their lab coats then it can’t be a bad thing can it?

Nick

Funny, I could probably get some of those “prizes”… not sure I’d want to though

Hey, I order from promega all the time here at the Scripps Research Institute, and I am NOT a geek. Ok, maybe I am, I will have to go home and ask my robot :stuck_out_tongue:

Da Bum

Scripps?!?! I am jealous. How hard is it to work in a lab when the sun is shining outside all the time?

Nick

The nice thing about the weather is that I don’t have to worry about it. It is nice 90% of the time, so I don’t really think about the weather anymore. It sure isn’t like when I was in upstate New York and I was bummed having to work when it was sunny (hardly ever) outside. In New York you knew that the window of good weather was way too narrow! Not to mention that Scripps is only a 10 minute run to the beach :), and there is nothing like beach repeats with bare feet!

Da Bum

That does it - I’m changing coasts!

Nick

I will have to go home and ask my robot

me too… heh, heh, my girl robot…

Hey, who do you work for at Scipps? I am starting a post-doc with Prof. Boger next month. Send me an email if you’d like.

As long as they sent me a Tri-Babe as a Sales Rep next time, I won’t complain about their new strategy.

Would be a nice change compared to the bulemic, anorexic ultra-slim false blondes showing up here all the time.

I.M.O. they must be pretty desperate if they have to make this kind of sales-pitch. I wonder who sold this half-baked strategy to their Ad-Dept. Wonder if it is specially geared towards SoCal.

Hey, well welcome to the world of Scripps! I am sure that you will like it here!

Mike

Thanks. Maybe when I get into town in a few weeks, I could spring for lunch if you get me up to speed on the tri-scene out there?

Jeromy

Hey, well welcome to the world of Scripps! I am sure that you will like it here!

I run past your shop all the time. I was at a presentation at the Burnham Institute last night (my clients are the rich folks that give donations).

Funny you mention not worrying about the weather. My last summer back in MD where I grew up was in 1984. I swear on a stack of Zipp wheels that the summer was this: 5 days sunny; 2 days rain; 5 days sunny; 2 days rain; repeat for three months. I just about killed myself.

I came out west that fall to do grad school at UCLA and have hardly set foot back east since.

Sounds good! Just send out a post here after you get to town. If you can, try to find a place somewhere North of La Jolla such as Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, etc. That is really the tri-scene in my opinion. Not to mention the presence of both Nytro and BandL to suck away your dollars. Plus, I still get a kick out of seeing the pros that you read about all the time.
