Very dull question for the wrenches about Shimano brakes

Trying to cable 105 brake calipers. I have new jagwire cables together with the little metal sleeve that fits over the end. Problem is when I try and insert the cable housing and sleeve into the tension adjuster on the brake caliper it won’t fit. MY best guesses are:

  • the sleeve needs to be crimped on to the brake cable first (it’s currently kind of loose)and the crimping will reduce the diameter enough to force it in there;

  • the thing that looks like it might be a shim inside the tension adjuster is and can be removed by doing ____ after which the sleeve will fit no problem.

Am I close? suggestions gratefully received.

You need a reduction cap. Should have come with the cables.

if the cable housing fits inside the adjuster barrel on the brakes without the end cap, mount without endcap.

Yup - yer right. I just checked. No endcap on the brake - akin to Campy as well.

Ok thanks a lot. This is part of my “learn by doing” bike building project so there is likely a lot more where that came from.
