That argument he had going on about Sam Longâs swim âimprovementsâ was just bizarre. I really respect the guyâs knowledge, but it almost seemed as if he was just trolling.
Out of curiosity, where do you suppose the kids get sick from? Are you suggesting all viruses have genesis in small children and they spread from there? Not that they get sick from adults, the kids having a naive immune system and pass it on from there?
Were the âgerm factoryâ native tribes with viral naive immune systems to blame when the Europeans came?
Would you or anyone else find it appropriate to call the Aztecs, who possibly were spreading and dying by the millions from smallpox (brought by the Europeans) âgerm factoriesâ?
Or does that perhaps sound, dehumanizing?
Sorry sorry on the tangent. Just leaving that point hanging seems unfair.
I do have to say either a new QR or the ventum is the top of my list!
Yeah Iâm done engaging on this. Yaâll want to be a prick and shit on a parent for the reality of parenting be my guest, but itâs no more worth my time than tilting at windmills.
Indeed. To win an argument on the internet is to dream the impossible dream. To be banned from slowtwitch over it is an unbearable sorrow. To bring up Lionel Sanders in every post is to march into hell for a heavenly cause.
I am not sure my decision would be that easy for me
I would have to price them out, but my hunch is Ventum is better value. And while in theory budget may be unlimited, if you put a total budget cap, you will get faster with the Ventum. But I only did a superficial comparision of $ for a given configuration.
IF the Ventum fits, of course. I stood over Benâs medium frame because this is the one I was considering. I am ok, but I am slightly more leg than torso. My buddy, same height may not stand over. We need to check. (Funny story of me and Neal Henderson measuring crotch height on the side of the road)
The Ventum is undeniably a fast bike as tested on 2 people this week.
I do like the PD configurability and knowing the reach options have been adequately tested (see other threads).
But the two of them would be on my current short list which consists of 4 bikes.
The consideration of what kind of racing one does and what the hydration and Nutrional considerations are can have an impact on oneâs decision. The more convenient it is to be self-reliant on a bike course, IMO, is as important as CdA. If I have to put on a lot of extraneous carrying capacity to a frame to make it work, Iâm willing to forgo a few raw watts to ensure I can have what I need in a more efficient package. Ironman is a swim, bike, run, and eating contest.
Part of it though (for an amateur anyway) comes down to the convenience factor of having an integrated flat kit. Without integration, its a bit of a headache to figure out where your flat kit is going to go - I used to use one of the bottle spaces with a stubby - used to work fine, but with the new carb paradigm and expected WT rules, Iâm now also trying to find spots for bottles that arenât an aero penalty.
Now I have a speed concept with 2 speedboxes - one speedbox goes on for training rides and a different one goes on for races (different tube stems for race wheels, plus tools for the valve extender) and its just so easy.
Yeah and as long as Ironman insist on hammering huge checks from Mortal Hydration, you need to carry even more bottles or gels on the bike since there are no carbs in that option on course.
I have a P Series
My summer project is to help optimize my buddy doing IM Canada. We do this to test very specific parts of our technology while doing a fun project. So he is our project.
One option is for him to take my PSeries and I change bike. I mostly TT now.
The bikes I would consider for him or me
The QR. May be more of a challenge in Canada
The Ventum. May be same import challenges/tariffs crap
A PSeries. Maybe this yearâs. Mine is last years
The bike Jeroen has talked about in other threads.
Some of the stuff we are doing is around tires for what I consider ârough roadsâ. I think my PSeries has limited tire clearance. I âthinkâ the new one doesnât
I want at least 2-3cm more reach than his current setup which is a Argon 119 RIM brake bike.
The proposed QR is $12,974 for Ultegra DI2-12. I used Zipp as a wheel because both offer it. The Ventum with SRAM AXS, Zipp 808 wheels is $6,499. I would not be using Zipp probably. For the difference I can buy a lot of stuff, including wind tunnel time, a trip to London to see Matt Bottril and SIlverston (I would not, but you get the point)âŚ
So to me, the Ventum looks like good value. Trust me, either of us can afford either bike, but Iâd prefer to spend the money on other pleasantries like more aero helmetsâŚtunnel timeâŚlots of tires for testingâŚ
I like Jeroenâs bike, but not sure when available.
