I racing for the first time in a wetsuit does anyone have a good way to hold a ventolin. In the past I have just placed it in the rear pocket of my trisuit but I need to be able to get hold of it
TIA

In a ziplock baggie and then stuff it under your swim cap at the back of your head?
Must be tough if you know you’re going to need it during the swim. Good luck!
Why not just take it before the swim.
Also, try ‘pre-wheezing.’ During your bike or run warm-up get up to where you just feel a twitch in your lungs, then take your inhaler and rest a bit while you get ready for your swim warm up.
Just take a puff before leaving T1 for the swim.
It sounds like your asthma is not very well controlled. If your using your Ventolin(rescue inhaler) on a regular basis you might want to talk to your doc about some other meds.
Anyway, good luck.
I used to swim with my inhaler, but quickly learned that one, cold water makes the inhaler not want to work as well, something to do with the temperature slowing it down. And two, it can also completely ruin the inhaler making it not work ever again. I highly recommend that you use it before the race starts, then put it in your bike helmet and pick it up in T1.

As a fellow asthmatic, I concur. The (somewhat) newer meds like Singulair and Advair do a really good job. Before I was on meds, i couldn’t run 10 min without a full blown asthmatic shut down. On the right meds, I have zero problems. Plus, in my experience, Albutoerol takes enough time to work that if I needed it in the water, it really wouldn’t be a great ‘rescue’ med.
Yep. If you are this worried about it you need Advair. I’ve almost died from attacks about 3X 20-25 yrs ago. Used to live on the rescue inhaler. Now I don’t even know where it is. Advair changed my life.
Advair isn’t the cure-all, I still have seasonal problems while on advair AND using abuterol before/during workouts. Many Drs don’t know much about EIA.
Try Docfuel’s suggestion if you haven’t already - before competition do a good warmup swim with enough pick-ups that you induce wheezing, then take a dose of ventolin right away. If the competition is more than a couple hours, carry it in your bike jersey as usual.
