Vented or not vented helmet

Olympic distance triathlon; expected temperature during the bike about 80 degrees, wind about 6mph. Trade-off is faster helmet vs hotter head. Opinions?

Ken,

From reading some of your political posts, I already thought you were a hot head! lol

If you’re going to go aero, you’d better be moving pretty damn quick, otherwise, you look like a guy with too much money and too many toys.

I’m going for 24mph, and an overall time between 2:06 and 2:10. I’m not wearing socks to save time in transition. Oh, it’s a Giro Eclipse helmet with clear packing tape covering the vents. No mistaking me for a rich guy!

Is this the Escape on Saturday? I decided I couldn’t justify the cost, I’ve been in it since inception. That time would be pretty good. Watch the currents, though. And say hi to my friend John. He’s about 5’7, shaved head, rides a Giant, will be wearing a T1 for the first time. do you really think it will be 80 in the morning? I’d go aero.

just did keauhou half ironman with 90 temp on the bike, and honu tri olympic distance also hot and in kona with a garneau time trial helmet (three teeeeeny vents). No overheating problems whatsoever. I was worried at first though, but it was barely even noticeable

Yes, it is the Escape. Yes, it doesn’t seem worth it ($105 for an Olympic, and all they have on the run is water?). I thought it might be fun to try and win the multi-sport series they have.

Weather Channel hourly forecast says 78-80 during the bike. I’ll probably go with the aero helmet.
