I hope to have my new velotron with adjustable power cranks (locking also) going this weekend. So, since this is NOT cheap, and anyone who has wanted to try different crank lengths with the ability to see true power readings it is just about impossible to do, I thought I would offer that if anyone wants to stop by my house in Auburn, Ca to try it out, I might as well share the fun. :o)
Just wondering what the benefits of the velotron over the regular CT are. It seems that the software is pretty much the same. Was your reason for going velotron the fit/adjustability of the machine?
Why do some people drive a car costing 1K, and other 100K? They both get from point A to B equally.
So the main reasons are I only live once and want to make my indoor biking as easy and repeatable as possible, now that I am starting to focus on power training.
Even though I loved my CT, I keep having tires blow out and it just gets old having to replace them. I also want to have my indoor riding be as close to real as possible, and with the 55 lb flywheel, everyone who I have heard that has ridden the velotron loves it, except for the price. I also hear it is quieter, which will be good since I would like to spin and watch movies with my family.
So, non of the above makes any logical sense. My wife told me she would replace my tires when they went flat. :O) I know I will not be able to do this that many more years, so again, if one earns money, you got to spend it somewhere. And since I do not drink, smoke, eat out, buy new clothes, or furniture or travel, this is my one bad trait. I like toys.
Just got back from picking my velotron up with adjustable power cranks. Frank and Andrew, nice to meet you both. So, will try to get it up and working this weekend. I really would rather taking my chances riding outside with all the crazy people and animals on the road.
Okay, been on the Velotron and PC’s for a few days now. I did my first 16 minute ride today. Am just slowly working my way to longer times. Am staying around 70 rpm and around 170 to 180 watts. As I ride more it sure does become easier. Now, after my ride I went for my 10 minute run brick. Maybe it is snake oil, but the run sure felt stronger, what ever that means. I have my last tri on Sunday at the Golden State Tri with TBF racing. Shall be interesting to see how I do with a week of PC’s under my belt.
I can not believe how much more smoother and like riding a real bike is on the Velotron, compared to my old CT. The starts feel like real start since you got to spin the 55 lb flywheel. But what is the most dramatic is the down hills. On the CT, you had to continue to push which is no way like real life. With the Velotron, you have all that energy in the fly wheel, so it makes me have to spin like a real bike which is great. Still to expensive, but for the number of hours I plan to ride indoors, might as well have the best money can buy.
Next week I will start adjusting the cranks longer and see how it feels.
