Varicose veins (1)

I’ve had these pesky, unsightly things on my right calf for years (and not the spider vein kind either). I have an appointment in Oct. with a vascular surgeon and hope to have them fixed by the end of this year. I’m thinking of running the Austin marathon with a friend of mine on Feb. 19. Does anyone have any experience with getting these fixed and how long it takes to back to serious training?

If they are small enough they can be treated with schlerotherapy (an injection of solution which causes the veins to close up). If not, I would suggest looking into laser surgery. The success rate is good & the recovery is much quicker (several weeks). Vein stripping, which is the traditional treatment usually requires general anesthetic & a much longer recovery. Good luck,

Tim

Just curious…what’s the different between just having good, vascular muscles and having varicose veins?
