Vanhoenacker ... why sleeveless?

I’m looking at the pics from Luxembourg, and I’m puzzled to see Marino choosing to not wear a newer sleeved speedsuit top … considering he was one of the earlier users of one of these in Kona two years ago.

Guesses as to why?

You asked for guesses:

A) He had a sponsorship with the company that makes his speedsuit and he was dropped or left
B) He lost/gained weight and it doesn’t fit anymore
C) He thinks it overheats him
D) He thinks it slows him in the swim (and he already sucks at swimming)

Different sponsor would be my guess.

And he’ll sure have reasons why it was faster to wear it. And if they make a sleeved top for him, there will be reasons why that is faster. Same with most tri gear.

Pros wear it, we think we need it to be quick.

I remember the interview with Bevan Docherty in ITU - “What do you eat?” “Whatever my sponsor pays me to eat”

Probably A; he’s wearing LG sponsored kit now (though so does Crowie, and he has a sleeved suit).

C might play a role. MVH has a history of overheating a blowing up in races, so he may have figured the extra heat retention just isn’t worth it.
