can someone explain the idea behind Christians’s aerobar set up here- never seen a set up like this…maybe related to his recent fall???
he wants to run aerobars with the drops angled down but 3T doesn’t make any so he did this
OR, he is putting the stem and basebar in front of the headtube and separating the elbow pads from the basebar for aerodynamic reasons

Couldn’t he just use his old aerobars and slap a 3T sticker on them, because frankly, that looks hideous. If they can rebadge bikes why can’t they rebadge bars?

The one thing if it were me riding this set-up is I think my back would be screaming in pain from my unsupported elbows wanting to bend and using my back to hold myself up. Again, this is not a criticism of CVV, but what would hapen to me. It does look odd with the elbow pads under his forearms near the rist.
Remember this guy? He could TT a bit, with a similar set-up.

That was my thought also…I had to take two advil after looking at the photo…
Aw come on…anyone who couldn’t hold that position for ~30 minutes needs to do more push ups/core work!
That said, I think his position from California (http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2009/feb09/california09/?id=/photos/2009/feb09/california09/california096/JD_09TOCstg6019) looks much better, although maybe a little more drop.

Maybe it has to do with handling, maybee the ToC set-up doesn’t lean for sh$t, and he had to lower the base bar to get the leverage he needs to lean at 30mph?
His frame/stem will not let him get the base bar as low as he wants,he needs a lower stem,but i bet Felt doesnt make one.

Except that he had bars that angled down enough for him last year and it was the switch in supplier that brought about this abortion, go with the bars he really wants was my suggestion.
