Vancouverites

Any of you guys know if there is a “public/club” swim at Buntzen lake I could join next week prior to the XTC on Saturday, 10th? Also, did any of you race the Xterra on that course last year?
I got back into town from Penticton last evening and am looking to see what running or riding can be done on the course before the race. As I got my IM outline filled in with your flag the swim will have to wait a week or so.

I’d check with North Shore Tri Club (www.nstc.ca) as they were doing weekly swims at Sasamat, not Buntzen, on Fridays. Buntzen is COLD compared to Sasamat BTW. The trails at Buntzen are well marked, so you’d probably be OK on your own, or maybe we could get a few STers out there for a run or ride…

AP

also get in touch with the guys at Runners Den - try to get hold of Paul Slaymaker. They know the trails up there very well and Paul is a real nice guy. Probably done X terra up there as well.

Andy, I think your idea of cold water might be alittle different to mine. We started sea swimming in England at Easter when the water was 10 degrees; will Buntzen be that cold? A group ST run or ride or both would be FANTASTIC, I am going to Dizzy’s to collect the bike that Teri Taylor arrnaged for me on the weekend.

But pretty much anytime that I can get the gf’s car to get over from Delta would be great. Certainly it would lift me from my post IMC funk.

Hey Simon, sorry we missed you and Linda on Monday. We got back late yesterday after the heavy traffic on Highway 3 back to town. Many thanks for the support that you, Linda and Legs gave both Celina and I on the course, it was a big boost just when it was needed…

I’ll over to the Den today and see either Paul or Tyler for info. I got to get into town for a Blenz Hot Chocolate soon!

See you Saturday evening if not before.

Hey no worries, it was great to see someone else suffer instead of me! LOL only kidding.

that girl of yours is tough cookie!

Yeah Tyler is another good resource, nice guy to boot. Also a pretty good IMer. But dont get suckered into going for an “easy run” with them! FYI Paul’s wife Penny raced on Sunday, she has been in the top 10 overall a couple of years back.

LOL, yeah fair 'nuff…

Is Penny the one with short blond hair, kind of in a “Radcliffe” cut? I thought I recognised her from last year, they are a very friendly crowd at the shop.

I could run on Sunday or Monday… I won’t be riding tho (no mtn bike for me, it was stolen years ago and I just never replaced it). I’ll be riding (on the road) on Sunday, probably 4hrs or so, out that way, so even if we don’t link up for a run, we could meet up for coffee near the Runner’s Den (Ioco Rd). Guess it would depend on when you wanted to run.

Any other STers want to link up on Sunday?

no idea havent seen her for a while other than on the bike on Sunday.

BTW we are ridng every day this weekend if interested, could hook you up with a buddy who is turning his attention to mtb in prep for Cheakmus Challenge if you want to get in some mtb work outs.

Also there is a tri on Monday at Stanley Park (Oly and Sprint) if you have nothing else better to do.

I hadn’t heard very positive reviews about those races, particularly if rainy/wet (that prospect pt. corner and the poor pavement there caused a few accidents in prior years, so I’ve been told). Wonder if they’ve made any improvements…

Ride through the Park a couple of times a week, the roads are a bit better (especialy from Prospect to 3rd Beach) but not really bad or really good. Some tough patches after the light house.

Never done the race just volunteered a couple of times, looks like a well run race, not sure how they crashed as the roads are closed for the duration of the race and its wide two lanes. Was volunteering at the top of Prospect Pt one year telling riders to slow down, not a hard coner by any means but it does pay to listen to the volunteers!

I do recall one year they got the tide wrong so there was a really long run in to TI, but hasnt happened since as far as I recall.

That would be cool, Andy. I will have to get my gf to tell me what her schedule is for then, but at the very less a coffee/tea meeting is on. I like those pastries from the
Italian opposite the Den. Very moreish!

I’m pretty much a newbie on the mtb so I think your buddy would be bored. What is the group pace on Saturday, Simon and how long are you out for?

Also, any idea what time the Tri starts Monday? It would be kind of good to watch if we can get to the park/transition area early enough.

will get back to you later on tonight after confab with the missus (she is racing the bike leg as part of relay team). Sat is group ride on the North Shore, will check for details and get back to you.

good to know, thx. maybe for next year (don’t think coach will want me racing this w/end!)

Olympic Tri starts 7:00 AM, Sprint (last wave) 7:45 at Second Beach. I’ll be there (playing in the sprint race) if anybody wants to say hi.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Julian,

I live close to Sasamat and Buntzen Lake. If you are looking for a person to swim with at Sasamat with just let me know. I’m good for a swim or two. Sasamat preferred because it is a bit warmer and I don’t have a wetsuit right now…

Cheers,

pm or email me - I am swimming Sasamat on a reasonably regular basis in prep for IM Florida - about 5 mins from Buntzen
.
