Vancouver, WA?

We all know that Vancouver, BC is the triathlon capital of Canada. But what do we know of Vancouver, WA?

I am about to relocate there after 43 years in New England. What am I in for?

The best thing about Vancouver, WA is that it’s just minutes over the bridge from Portland…

If you are interested in Long Course racing, contact me offline and we’ll get you connected with IronHeads Triathlon Team in Portland. We’ve got 40 members and a lot of great training going on.

Nearly a dozen of us are racing IMAZ next year including taking 10 days to train in Palm Springs next January…Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight!

WHAT?! Does this mean I am losing a safe-house in CT? Say it ain’t so!!!

It’s so!

You will be losing a safe house in CT but you’ll be gaining one in Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA. LOL!

Frankly, I think that’s an upgrade…

Although…It’s still VANTUCKY:-)

cold, rainy, windy 300 days of the year//no state income tax//good nude beach on columbia//loaded with state police highway patrol// year round road construction on I5 since 1985//

I just got back from two week vacation in the Columbia River Gorge east of Vancouver. I read in a local paper that Vancouver was the fastest growing city in Washington. Seems like one major advantage over Portland is lower property taxes. Then when you want to buy a new refridgerator, you just driver accross the river to Oregon and pay no sales tax. Best of both worlds!

Personally I would love to live up there (and I live in the Sonoma County Wine country of Nor Cal). I think the greater Portland area is about as nice a big city as you can find anywhere. Be sure to drive out to Hood River during the summer some time to see the windsurfers and kite sailors…it is a hotbed for those sports. You can also ski year round on Palmer glacier at Timberline Lodge.

Awesome area…you are very lucky to be heading out there.

The Portland Area is AWESOME. Best biking city around, period! Bike trails and lanes are everywhere. Great rides too. As for the weather, it gets a bad rap. Pretty mild all year, it does rain, but its not bad. Rarely snows (but it totally shuts down the area if a couple of flakes are in the air). I think all the rain hype is just to deter people from moving here. I have always thought its funny when my Michigan family asks how I put up with the weather here. If you are into outdoor stuff, it is pretty much year round, Whitewater, surfing, sailing, skiing, biking, hiking, you name it. Pretty kewl place. Super liberal. Get used to hippies and yuppies and hipsters everywhere. Oh and “the land of the pretty people” from lake oswego.
