Vail

Ok ST’ers- I am heading out to Vail for two weeks and was looking for some training ideas? I know there must be some great swims in the area but I am unfamiliar! Does anyone know about the lake in Avalon? What about anything else close by?

Just looking for some help!

Thanks in advance

The town is Avon. I don’t know about swimming in the lake, but the Avon rec. center has a nice pool. For running - Bike path goes about 30+ miles through town or run trails all over the ski hills. The bike - go west to Gleenwood, nice frontage road and then bike path. Or do “The loop” Vail, Leadville, Copper mtn. back to Vail. Do some repeats up Vail pass. Tons of options.

Have fun - The Valley is amazing.

Ahhhh, what a great time of the year to come (as I’m sitting in my office looking at Beaver Creek). There is no swimming in the lake at Avon, there is a great rec center next door to it that will work. There is a series starting next week that will allow you to swim in the lake along with a 5k run. It is fun and there is usually some world class talent there. Bring your wetsuit…http://avonrec.org/specialevents.cfm As metioned there are great riding mostly on along hwy 6. I would agree that going down and riding glenwood canyon is the best as well as riding up vail pass over to copper mtn. Enjoy the stay.

www.teamevergreen.org triple bypass ride on the 14th if you want some real pain

I posted earlier that I am also heading out to Vail. I will be out there at the end of the month, when are you going? I found a good trail run over in Breckenridge which is not too far from Vail and should be a good run.

Here is the link to the thread I started with some good info:

Since you are going to be here at the end of the month are you going to do the 100mile colorado river ride?
