UVEX TT helmet (as used by T-Mobile) available in Europe, April

Hi there, I called Uvex Germany and they said it would be out in April (I’ll beleive that when it happens!). As we’ve looked at and discussed TT helmets I thought this one has not featured here. It’s gonna cost over 300 euros though!!! will it be worth it?

And on the man himself…I though I’d include one of my fave ever cycling photographs:

okay, doesn’t anyone want to talk to me then???

Well since its only avaible in Europe, those of us in the States can simply drool. Its a hot helmet tho, anyone want to give me one

the UVEX that T-Mobile used is probaby idfferent than the one they are now selling

from the pics I have seen, the new UVEX is quite ‘spaceballish’

the only good legal TT lid (200mm wide, small profile, nice tail, light) I have seen, new, is the Louis Garneau Chrono, as the LG Rocket’s tail is too long and can scoop air if the head is positioned incorrectly
.

well, it IS the only one available that looks like the old style head fairings…well, the BELL and the Giro too but they’re not out until late summer so…this one is out in April…

They claim its the same one T-mobile are using…I called Uvex in Germany. Said it’s out in April…

actually, looking at the pics it’s exactly the same as the Ullrich one…

For my money, the Uvex is one of the better TT helmets available… enough so I asked my shop to look into getting them stateside. Uvex is working on getting US certification (I’ve already heard that from a couple other TT helmet manufactures this year). Retail is going to be pretty steep… around $300 US dollars!! At that price, I think it will be hard to move many helmets. No date on availability or US certification.

You can buy them direct from Germany on this online shop for example…but they come out in April so I would call UVEX Germany to find out.

Sperera, have you seen the Specialized TT helmet? I think it’s a better helmet, slightly smaller than the Uvex and a lot cheaper. Here in England the Specialized is £100 (and available now), the Uvex will retail at around £250. I can’t see how the Uvex is better for the price difference.

yes, the UK sells most of the TT helmets due to your great tradition of TT racing…you have races all over the country most weekends don’t you? That’s great…the Specialized and the Limar rank very highly in aerodynamics tests so I hear…the real cracker to wait for could be the BELL and Giro helmets…I called their HQ in Ireland and they’re not due out until later summer so…I just wanted to post what’s out there really…I think the choice is between the Limar and the Specialized…from what I have seen www.wiggle.co.uk have the Limar at the best price…I normally order stuff from www.parkers-international.com but they were more expensive there…

That Limar helmet is really cool. Is it US legal?

If you want the most aero helmet, you should go for something like this:

Really.

.

You would think that but a friend (and now teammate) of mine did extensive testing of helmets when trying for the athlete’s hour record, and found that the rounder the helmet the better. Skateboard lids were actually more aero than “aero” helmets. Strange but true.
