UVEX Aero helmet legal in the US?

While on vacation in Europe last year I came across one of those UVEX Aero helmets, that a lot of European riders use in either Ironman or time trial events. I’ve even seen athletes using the helmet in Kona.

Does anybody know if it’s legal to use the helmet, as it is not approved over here, or does it really matter?

as far as i know, not approved for USAT races.

(addendum: unless you’re a pro, i think?)

they are legal for US cycling races, though.

It doesn’t have CPSC certification, so not legal for USAT races. Pros can get around this, but not legal for AGers.

I didn’t think non-cpsc approved helmets could be sold in the US. How can RA cycles offer the UVEX helmet?

Depends upon which UVEX aero helmet you’re talking about, as there are 2. The fp 2 time trial helmet only meets EN DIN 1078/CE standards. The UVEX aero (as it’s called by them) is CPSC and EN 1078 approved.

i don’t think there is a difference.

RA Cycles themselves state on their website that this helmet does not meet USAT standards.

I did see the disclaimer that RA put up. So how do the pros get around the testing standard issue?
