USOC USAT BRP Decision?

Weren’t they supposed to make a decision by the end of April?

Apparently our fearless leader is into triathlon season in a heavy way because I asked him the same question Friday, late in the afternoon, and Tuesday but no answer. I guess Lew Kidder, Esquire, lost his tongue or pen, also.

Bob Sigerson

I am not too worried about Dan and Lew, I am sure they are researching the legal remedies to getting the petition voted on. What I am concerned about, is that the Blue Ribbon Panel hasn’t done anything. How hard is it to decide to have another election or not?

During my recent travels coincidence put me in conversational contact with many of the concerned parties- namely Lew Kidder, Val the new USAT boss and some other people who’s names and positions I forgot (can you tell hoe much this interests me?).

My slant on it is will be a protracted affair. I heard reasonable arguments for every perspective. Everybody thinks everybody else is wrong and there seems to be little consensus.

Personally, and this is such a cop-out, Each one of the parties I met I found intersting and articulate. Lew has been a friend of mine and trusted counselor for years. I trust the man. Trouble is, the other parties had their positive points also.

I don;t know what to say about. It is a major Chinese firedrill (disclaimer: that is not meant as a deragartory comment about any Asian ethnicity or nationality, it is merely a coloquiolism ).

Tom, speaking as an Amerasin, I am highly offended by your comments. I have always thought you to be an articulate and intelligent person and now this! What next? Tibbs is a closet Democrat?

Man, I just want to know what’s happening with the USAT board!!

Patience, Grasshopper. Obviously it’s not as simple and one sided as everyone would like to think it is. The BOD consists of some dedicated athletes who give their time and effort to support the sport. Each of them has ambitions to raise the quality of offerings that USAT provides to the multisport community. Unfortunately, the present mix doesn’t appear too harmonious. Many of their priorities are in conflict and they seem to be a stubborn and aggressive lot. In their zeal to serve, they’ve tainted an election and initiated a legal battle.

The election issues should have been dealt with internally and never been allowed to explode as they have. Perhaps the BRP will be able to resolve the matter with a minimum of litigation. It’s worth the wait if that’s the outcome. Otherwise the legal bills alone are in the 10s of thousands of dollars and headed for 100s of thousands of dollars. There’s no budget for those funds - they’ll come out of reserves or other programs since all involved have voiced their intention to seek reimbursement for their legal expenses from USAT. Besides the legal fees there’s things like lost support and sponsorship dollars that decrease available resources. Although the staff can conduct daily business, important decisions can’t be made without a BOD and that’s going to have an impact as well.

USAT is in relatively good shape. Membership is up, events are increasing, and the organization is financially sound. Maintaining that situation and building on it should be the first priority of those entrusted with the power to make decisions. Why they can’t put their egos aside and deal with issues as they should puzzles me. If this can be resolved with a minimum of court time then I’m willing to give the BRP all the time they need.

what i hear is that the BRP was perhaps primed to render a decision, and an issue came up that required them to revisit an issue or two. i’m guessing soon, maybe even tomorrow, but i don’t know. i also have no idea whether they’ll mention the subject of the petition, tho i’ll be a bit put off if they don’t, as lew and i acceded to the BRP’s request to delay any action on enforcement of the petition until it finished its work. the fact that they made the request imbues the petition with an element of power, or else they would’ve ignored it altogether. however, it would seem to me appropriate for the BRP to explicitly order the imminent its sending as part of its remedy, especially since its sending is required by the bylaws. it’ll be interesting to see what happens (and when).
