*Each month Census gives Labor a figure on the number of workers it has hired. That figure goes into the closely followed monthly employment report Labor provides. For the past two months the hiring by Census has made up a good portion of the new jobs. *

*Labor doesn’t check the Census hiring figure or whether the jobs are actually new or recycled. It considers a new job to have been created if someone is hired to work at least one hour a month. *
*One hour! A month! So, if a worker is terminated after only one hour and another is hired in her place, then a second new job can apparently be reported to Labor . (I’ve been unable to get Census to explain this to me.) *

*"John: I am on my fourth rehire with the 2010 Census. *

*"I have been hired, trained for a week, given a few hours of work, then laid off. So my unemployed self now counts for four new jobs. *

** "A few months ago I was trained for three days and offered five hours of work counting the homeless. Now, I am knocking (on) doors trying to find the people that have not returned their Census forms. I worked the 2000 Census. It was a far more organized venture.
I believe what he finds disturbing is that a government agency, through gross incompetence is affecting the monthly jobs report. This is one of the reports being used by the current Administration to tout an economic recovery. That I believe is what he finds so “disturbing”.
I’ve been following this for several months now. It does seem that the government has been using census workers to inflate the jobs numbers.
I believe it to be fact. Add this to the absolute inability of the Feds to even conduct the census on time and within budget and a picture emerges…a well known picture which portrays, once again, the incompetence of government.

Pure genius. Had you filled it out and sent it back in, the goverment (and thus, the taxpayer – including yourself) would not have incurred the cost involved to send someone to your door. Instead, you toss the form, so some temp government employee (who is paid hourly, plus mileage) has to show up at your door which costs the taxpayer EVEN MORE.
Multiply your actions times hundreds of thousands for all the anti-census cranks out there, and now we know why it costs so much and they have to hire hundreds of thousands of workers.
Please don’t complain about government waste when you are contributing to it.
Who is in my home is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. My race - NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. If they want to know how many income earners there are they can simply look at the IRS forms that they fuck me on every year.

Reported - Census Workers - Temporary Workers - Birth/Death Adjustment Factor = Real Jobs Number
So, 431k - 411k - 31k - 215k = -226k jobs lost in May.

People are stripping out the census workers anyways so I wouldn’t be too concerned about padding that number, but the birth/death adjustment factor is the real fudge factor in all of this, yet, most people have no fucking clue what it is, and that includes professional investors, etc.
And now that unemployment benefits have been extended, I expect these numbers to stay shitty for quite a while, as people sit home and collect rather than go out and work.
You hit the nail on the head - more so with the Unemployment numbers. Large numbers of folks are not looking for jobs thanks to unemployment. More are no longer on unemployment and “timed out” and are not getting any (thus not counted) and not using the unemployment office in their search for new employment (again, not counted). Then there are the “Early retirement” and or “Buy Out” folks who WOULD work and want to work but felt that taking an exit package proactively was better than taking a walk re actively.
Human life has always in the past required work just to survive. Be it in the hunter / gather stages before the mechanical revolution or the fact that people needed earn a living to afford the sustenance to provide for their families. Now, we dont expect anyone to work and just mail them a cheque…beh…god that pisses me off.
Meanwhile landscaping companies and other small businesses that hire lower paying workers are struggling to fill seasonal and full-time positions because people won’t work.
Unemployed “workers” make probably as much or slightly less just collecting, and now that average unemployment benefits are running well beyond 2+ years, how can you blame them.
It’s like winning the fucking lottery.
Another example of idiotic progressive/liberal policies failing in the real world.
But don’t worry, when this latest extension sunsets you’ll have some other douchefuck in Congress crying about how we need to help the little guy out.

I agree, we just tried to give them the first opportunity since they were laided off, but I am not going to haggle with people that have crappy attitudes that don’t want to work, we hired some others 2 hours after they declined. I think they were still kinda ticked off about beign laided off.

For one, if the number of census workers (or those associated to any single employer) contribute to the total amount that much, how much of an increase can it be? Additionally, even if these numbers are counted “correctly” how significant can they be as an indicator of “real economic growth” since they are only temporary positions?
Whether or not they are counted correctly, I would hope that the president or other officials would condition their evaluation upon this (and other) facts, especially when making a public statement concerning such. I’m hopeful that our officals will act responsibly and not just present the “rosy picture” but the true, accurate picture.
But THAT probably won’t happen. It seems everywhere I turn, I see folks who have already made up their mind presenting a skewed version ot the truth, in an attempt to jam their prejudice down my throat.
