Using Spinerval on Computrainer?

Is this possible at all? I’ll like to use my Spinerval videos without taking the bike off the Computrainer and putting it on the normal trainer. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks everyone.

Why the incline?

Why the incline?
Probably to make up for the lack of wind resistance.

Okay…I’m sorry. I’m too dense to understand. So after creating the course, can you just run it with the handlebar control? And play the spinerval video? Or do you have your computer and TV side by side? Or could you use the Spinerval while having the CT course running in the background of the computer??

I’m really confused as to how this is working…

If that is so, why not add wind resistance in the options? Maybe TGL will tell us.

OK, but for that issue, you set up the course as TGL suggests. I am assuming we are in 3D, correct? Press start and do the workout according to directions from Coach Troy.

Save it, look at it in Coachnig Software and/or export to Cycling Peaks, etc.

Its like having Coach Troy ride alongside and yell at you (“I didn’t tell you to slow *down, *TGL”), but with a PowerTap installed. And a controlled course for comparison purposes.

Not unlike what I did last night–I laid out a straight flat course in 3D and did a series of intervals as described by the Cycling Peaks folks on their website to establish some baselines for later comparison.

I do one of two things. If I can steal the tv/dvd from the kids I play the Spinv. dvd on that next to the PC and then do a flat or constant 1% grade climb using CT in 3d mode.

If not, I just play the Spinv. DVD through the PC and use the CT in standalone mode (i.e. with just the handlebar controller). Then I use the wattage control in this mode to find a wattage that will enable me to do the workout at the sort of intensity required. To be honest this is far more straightforward. The only thing of course is that you don’t get spinscan so you can’t check that you are doing the drills with good form - but I can live with that.

When I was ordering I saw that you could buy the “Stand Alone”. Its a nice stand and everything, but why would you just buy the stand?

Monk - I think that we may be at cross purposes. I just meant when you use the handlebar controller for CT rather than connecting to the PC and its screen. I think I’ve seen the stand in a photo also - can’t imagine why you would need to buy it.

Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of the TV beside the PC…=p

Hmmm…how do you gauge the wattage to put for the spinerval intervals??? Just by feel?? Seems quite arbitrary to me. Is there a method you go by??

Kembo–I was making a joke–Stand Alone means with the motor and the controller, not the “Stand” by itself. Its a play on words on the word “stand”.

how do you gauge the wattage to put for the spinerval intervals???
Maybe I am missing something, not you. When you are riding a flat course in 3D, nothing is controlling your power or effort but you. True? So you switch to a harder gear when Troy says switch, spin an easier gear when he says spin, etc. Your wattage will go up and down, depending on how fast you spin whatever gear you are in.

I understand what you mean Monk. But thats when you run Spinerval on a TV and CT on a PC side by side right? Problem is I don’t have my TV beside my computer. Is there anyway to set a straight flat course using the handlebar controller?

I’ve never used Spinervals, but if you have the CompuTrainer with the optional coaching software installed, you could set an ergo file to start at a specific wattage level, and then increase the wattage at predetermined time intervals. It might take some experimentation first to get the wattage levels set. Just a thought…

You are already “upside down” in tri gear. Buy another TV. I suggest HD Plasma. Or go cheap–you only need to listen to Coach Troy, not look at the weenies. Copy the soundtrack, burn it to CD, set CT to play music when it starts. Or just write down the workout sequence. I guess it is obvious by now that I don’t know how to do what you want with the controller, huh?

Hahha…thanks Monk.

I might look into that soundtrack thing though…ahaha…

OK, all. I am about to demonstrate a facility that will have you all saying Monk is a God, GodMonk.

  1. Start you 3D software, select your options and load a flat course, but do not hit the “Race” button on the lower right.

  2. Put your Spinervals DVD in your computer.

  3. Get up to where the warm-up starts in the DVD.

  4. Minimize the DVD window. The DVD sound will still be on.

  5. Click on the “Race” button on the CT screen. WHen you are ready, press “start”.

Troy will be jabbering and telling you what gear and when.

Now repeat “Monk is a God, God Monk”

Another possibility is to switch the CT 3D software into windowed mode by hitting F12. Then you can adjust the size/position of it’s window, and of the window for your dvd playback.

I run the 3D software windowed all the time - I think it makes the text clearer.

Have you seen what Cycling Peaks does with exported 3D files? Woohoo!

Well I have tried to do everything I can for you TGL. But I can’t bring you into the modern world. I’m not really sure the modern world wants. I’m not sure you want the modern world.
