Cmon USAT , be a leader, lets’ pic any river mouth, marsh, beach etc etc… and focus on it ,pooling whatever resources we can to protect it. BP does not own the Gulf.
Because I live in Florida and have an affinity for Triathlons in the Gulf and enjoying the Gulf beaches with my family, I’ve been very distraught over the issue myself. Feeling a single email or letter from me to some government official would have such minimal impact - I started a facebook group today. My goal is to get 1,000,000 members to say that want to see the government find a solution to the problem - check it out (and join) - never done anything like this in my life! No worries guys. I enjoy the beach as much as anyone, but we should keep in mind that oil is a natural product before it gets refined. It is biodegradable. In a few years mother nature, sunshine, and microbes will have done their work and the beaches impacted by the spill will be back to normal. The damage done to fisheries, hatcheries etc. may be more lasting, but the beaches will be resilient.

Where is the USAT on this? Are we not the progressive, in shape , care about nature , positive thinking , energy to burn part of our society? Who gives a rats ass about how fast their bike is , or how slick their wetsuit is if we can’t protect one little marsh…or a quarter mile of beach. Unbelievable. We are the lucky ones to be able to participate in this sport, privileged, the stars were in our favor…lets use our synergy and make a stand.
Amen Mustang. I live in Hattiesburg ,Mississippi just a short drive to our coast and this thing is getting worse by the day. It really has me thinking about the tri community and all the open water races along the coast but more importantly the thousands upon thousands of families depending on the coastal waters to survive for one reason or the other. I agree that USAT could definitely play a role in this but in the meantime we need to pray.
