- drafting lines 4-5 long
- police vehicles driving head on into the bike lane
- results not available until 5:00 in order to force people to stay for the $20 rubber chicken dinner
- a typical bill burke (pem)/usat event
WTF did triathletes do to deserve such a incompendent governing body fill with good ole boy selected fly by night race directors. The local race director here in Oregon (AA sports) would of put on a honest and descent effort compared to the mickey mouse bill burke /usat group.
Glad you had fun!!
i went into the fence at the start of the bike when i jumped on. My pedal jammed into the ground and when right into the steel fence. The med staff was wonderful thogh A+
Grant
grant, i’m sorry to hear that. are you ok? i agree the med staff was very good, had them patch me up from a fall on the crappy road during run, when some 300lb pig jumped out into the run lane to take a picture of his 250 sow wife. how the hell do so many completely out of shape people qualify for this race?
Wow. I’m trying to figure out how you did that. Ouch.
Edit: my biggest snafu was knocking my shoe off my pedal when trying to get my feet in, so having to stop, park my bike against a car, run back and grab the shoe and go from there. Went from 2nd position in my AG to 4th or 5th, I think. Oh well. I’m a dork. Still had a great swim and the run felt decent.
I’m trying to figure out how you did that.
You clearly never seen Grant’s transitions…

Well I’m sure glad I wasn’t around to witness it. He might have taken me out too.
Ha you’re a funny guy… Its so flipping stupid i do it every race perfectly fine and i just fucked up. Actually one guy almost fell into me while i was sitting there so i’m not the only idiot.
I’m fine, just sore… the fences are to forgiving.
Grant
hes just being stupid, i’ve never had a problem before this time.
Grant
Oh, dude, relax. You just got a little over eager is all.
At least you weren’t up on the road parking your bike against a parked car and running about 10 meters back with one cycling shoe on to retrieve the other while your competitors are flying by.
the fact that they set the course up with a steep uphill bike mount and steep decent downhill bike dismount only shows the stupidity of both usat and bill burke. when AA sports runs the exact same race there, they have the transition area up on the upper lot with a flat bike mount/dismount…and you have to run a little further from the lake.
I think you’re being overly negative. Not sure what you’re agenda is in slamming the race organization so much.
I agree although i suck there is nothing you can do about drafting on a hilly course. The uphill mount was fine it was me and my bike that have issues to work out not the course.
Grant
maybe you like to paid $105 entry fee for a third class race, i’m old enough to remember when $20 got you a first class race. when people are satisfied eating garbage, what do think they get served…steak and lobster??
I thought this was your first post, but I realized this is your 4th user name.
No wonder I was confused.

Sorry man… had to do it. You seemed to need a little comic relief to get talked down from the ledge.
Hate to say it but there were some issues out there…
Cars on the course were a little scary at 30+ while attempting to navigate corners…
I hear one wave/age group completely cut a buoy short…
I didn’t witness any blatant drafting on the bike…
My wave of the swim had folks from a wave or two in front swim into us, though it could have been the fact that I swim like a dog and was blinded by the sun.
Either way, I got the ass-kicking that I had coming!
Was it the 20-24 women? I know i was swimming slow at only 26mins or something but holy crap the whole womens wave behind me practically passed me.
I almost ran into people while i was coming in too so it wasn’t just you i looked up and i had about 5 people coming straight at me while i was going towards the exit.
Grant
I had a buddy racing in the 30-34 men’s…(Fwiw, I raced 35-39) He’s not on here so it’s third hand (take that for what it’s worth); but right after the race he said “we all cut a buoy and it was too late…”
Shoot, I dunno, he’s a strong athlete but his previous best out there (he’s from Portland) was 2.24 give/take and he did a 2.14. Whoops.
Nice day to race, alot went right; prolly on balance more right than wrong for sure.
Once the beer started flowing it really didn’t matter too much.
Challenging mount and dismount make for a more challenging race. Since the water will always be lower than the road, it’s really the norm and in some races it can be pretty challenging and makes the race a quintathlon. I like that, 'cuz I blaze through transitions. Master the skill and you can start enjoying it when RDs throw something at your comptetitors that messes 'em up…

- Give yourself a break, rookie. It’s called the learning curve. And in spite of that you finished top 5? That’s awesome. Next year you’ll be on the podium, maybe even top step.
