Who is in? Also I need information regarding swim (wetsuit or non-wetsuit) bike and run course.
Thanks.
I’ll be there check the website, there are tabs on the top of the page, I was looking in the guide and found nothing. Good luck!
Could go either way right now.
St. Louis has cooled a bit in the mornings and evening, but we are still getting high 80’s and 90’s during the day without any rain. Unless we get some rain right before the event I doubt it will be wet suit legal.
On a good note, it’s probably one of the cleanest lakes you will get an opportunity to swim in.
The swim is one loop in a very clean, clear (no boats allowed) lake. It’s awesome. It was wetsuit legal last year. While it’s been hot here in the St. Louis area this Summer, if I had to guess, I’d say it will be wetsuit legal again this year. There was an Olympic distance race Saturday in Lake St. Louise (smaller, shallower lake less than 20 miles away) and they got a legal reading (or so they said - cough, cough). And, I think with the drowning at the Halfmax site earlier this year, I think they’ll do everything in their power to get it legal at Halfmax. Anyway…
The bike is two rolling loops and pretty exposed to winds.
The run is a two loop hilly mo-fo. A serious test. Short, steep hills the whole way. It’ll kick your @$$.
I’ll be there spectating and taking pics. We should have a ST get-together prior to the race so I can see who everyone is and make an effort to get some good pics of them.

Yeah, cough it was legal. I wore a speedo and felt the water was hot. Pretty sure they measured that right on top of the block of ice someone would have had to dump in the lake to get that under 78 degree reading. If would be shocked if that water was even under 82 degrees.
Good point though, with the drowing Mark is probably going to cut it some slack. I have mixed emotions regarding that. Swimming in warm water with a wetsuit on while might save lives when something bad happens, can also cause medical conditions to surface that may not have if no wetsuit were worn.
Damn, I wore my sleeveless IM stealth and I thought it was perfect. Being wet on the bike to start really was refreshing in that 60 degree morning! I felt like I got a 100lb gorrilla off my back. Bet next weekend will be just as nice. Thank God this heat is almost over…
We’re on the same page.
I did the practice day one week prior to the race and talked to Dave about it. Without actually coming out and saying it (which he obviously couldn’t), he said to not worry about it being wetsuit legal. With all of the newbies that do LSL, I can’t say that I blame him/them. Then again, most newbies don’t have a wetsuit, so…
The practice was actually on a hotter day (air temps and more Sun) and I did it in my suit just to see if it would actually be a good idea on race day. It was hot, but not unbearable. And, fortunately, I race in a DeSoto. So, I have the option of taking an extra-long glide occassionally and flipping some water under the top with the recovering arm by pulling the waistline out. Makes a huge difference and don’t lose much momentum. Yet another benefit of the 2-piece design.

I will be there.
