When I signed up for IMLOU there was nothing said about my USAT membership? Was the daily USAT fee already applied to my registration fee? If not when are they going to collect it?
The point is its 9 dollars. 9 whole dollars. its not that big of a deal.
What if Starbucks started charging $9 more for a coffee? Would $9 still not be that big of a deal?
For me, it isnât a big deal. I race enough, that the cost is negligable.
But itâs like Active.comâs processing fees and other nickel and dime costs. They get under peopleâs skin.
To put this in perspective, I just sent in my annual USMS(Southern Masters) renewal and it went from $30 last year to $40 this coming year. This is for 1 to 2 meets per year. I aslo just paid $100 to run the Houston marathon to try to spend another $100 if I qualify for Boston.
Trying to make itself a more relevant organization, USAT went into a deficit position last year and is in a deficit position this year. Even with the balance sheet USAT has, you canât continue to be healthy all the while outspending yourself.

I just went online to renew mine, and they âonlyâ charged me $30.
My membership is now good thru 1/08.
Where did the money go?
does USAT really cover your medical expenses if you crash in a race?
Just wondering, based off of what you said about some people at the boulder peak. - E
A USCF license is about $60 and gets you about the same a USAT membership as best I can tell.
My USCF license was only $30, but it was for only 3 cyclocross races, so that sucked.
Itâs nice that youâre happy about the subsidies that youâre receiving from all the other members who donât see the value in their membershipsâŚ
The $30 difference (now $20) is EASILY justified with USCF benefits.
When USAT opens their booksâŚyouâll see how much cash they are sitting on. They arenât poorâŚ
Have you seen the balance sheet, Sig? I canât believe USATâs in the red ⌠my god, $30 a pop for its annual membership, and whatâs it spent to make itself âmore relevantâ except a part-time computer whiz to generate mass electronic mailings full of irrelevant horsesh*t?
Methinks somethingâs rank in the State of Denmark ⌠er ⌠Colorado, if thatâs the case.
always the jokerâŚ
i for one am counting on an âaccurately designedâ black and yellow deep dish card to compliment the Caliente

The answer to outspending yourself is not all always to raise fees/prices/taxes but to simply stop outspending yourself
USAT has 70,000 members right? 70K x $9= $630,000âŚlets hope they are doing something productive with the $$$.
understand completely.
iâm here to tell you however there are lots of folks, especially those who only do a couple events, have solid primary insurance and donât give a lick about rankingsâŚspend a fair amount of time reviewing where, how much, and what they get for it.
MaybeâŚbut the insurance isnât just for us. The insurance also covers the liability, accidental, etc. that for the RDs.
I canât say I research where the money totally goes, but I think Iâm agreeing with you when I say that it is human to feel that we arenât getting value for our money when we donât see a physical, tangible, visual benefit.
If I were on the Board which takes over January 1, 2007, I would be a little upset over this lameduck move. As you said, there is the possibility that spending cuts could achieve a balanced budget. The ânewâ Board now has to contend with an eleventh hour decision, and the bad start to 2007 it creates.
But, maybe I missed the detailed justification that certainly would have accompanied this kind of move. Regardless, it should have been left for early 2007 and the new group. Unless Iâm also missing some political hanky-pankyâŚnah, couldnât be.
But doesnât the RD pay the USAT a fee for the sanctioning, which includes the insurance? If so, howâs USAT out any money there?
Good point. Sure $9 is not a lot of money, but that is a 30% increase.
Yeah, itâs the little things that can bug me, and those active processing fees are a good example. Iâll go out of my way to use a mail-in registration if I possibly can.
The point is its 9 dollars. 9 whole dollars. its not that big of a deal.
But itâs like Active.comâs processing fees and other nickel and dime costs. They get under peopleâs skin.
Isnât the big problem with processing fees the fact that they are so large in comparison to some entry fees?
Maybe Iâm different. I care mainly that this money is put to good use advancing the sport. I generally only object when I feel people are trying to use the popularity of the sport to siphon off money.
But doesnât the RD pay the USAT a fee for the sanctioning, which includes the insurance? If so, howâs USAT out any money there?
No. The sanctioning fee is $150 dollars, only. This doesnât include the insuranceâŚand the $150 includes a USAT membership.
