i thought i saw a post on a fee increase, which got a response on the order of no—not for annual fee, yes for daily fee. i just got a news e-mail from usat which included a fee increase for annual members, from $30 up to $39.
is there a way to find out the particulars of the vote, meaning how each board member voted?
peggy
fees are indeed going up. one day to $10 and annual to $39.
granted…the fees have held steady for a while.
yet another excuse for marginal sanctioning races to pull the plug.
i’ve requested a breakdown on the BOD vote.
USAT release is unclear about youth licensing for 2007.
i’ve also requested clarification on that.
This might be one of those examples where increasing the fees means less revenue. At $30, with a $3 club discount, you broke even with three USAT races per year. Now, you are going to have to do at least four to break even. This might lead me to drop my membership, which would mean that they will get $27 less instead of $9 more from me.
a whole 9 dollars??
so like 75 cents more a race… guess i’ll have to forgo those 4 extra gels next year.
Grant
yeah.
i see lots of race calendar reviews on the horizon.
i’ll still renew since i’m going to get certified for officiating. but otherwise…
5 Gs on a bike but $9 a year is an issue… ?
not everyone who carries an annual card does so out of the goodness of their heart or love for the governing body.

It is always a bummer to see fee increases…but the way I look at it. If you do 1-3 races per year, you’re paying pretty much what you did last year. If you do 4…you pay a bit more…but it still comes down to less than $2 per race.
That is only a small cost in comparison to the really large fees being charged at races around the country these days. Race fee increases recently make this change look kinda small.
5280 - that was my point… lol i don’t get it.
Jim - Yes but for me rankings are important and the insurance they provide over my policy is also important so for a whoping 4 dollars a race to have insurance to cover if something happens for me is not a big deal. Especially when the injury could end up being pretty bad like a couple people a boulder peak in 05’

No, I would still do the same number of races, but I might just get a daily membership instead of an annual one because it would be cheaper.
LOL, same thought here. See the “how much I spend on the sport” thread for reference purposes. ![]()

People spend $5K on a bike because they feel it is worth it to them. Many people question the value of their USAT membership, and $9 more for something you think is (almost) worthless, is pretty hard to swallow, even if the absolute amount is small.
Well duh. If you think its worthless then don’t get it. The point is its 9 dollars. 9 whole dollars. its not that big of a deal.
Grant
understand completely.
i’m here to tell you however there are lots of folks, especially those who only do a couple events, have solid primary insurance and don’t give a lick about rankings…spend a fair amount of time reviewing where, how much, and what they get for it.
Damn board members. You elect them and then they change their mind. Can you determine what member voted on this?
A 30% hike is a big deal!!!
Sure, not a lot $-wise, but % is huge.
Sad that this is justified through “new initiatives” beyond the scope of the original charter or mission.
I understand that. But its not like i am going to spend an hour reviewing it even if it did matter. I make more then the change difference in an hour at work so it wouldn’t be worth the effort. Not much more then the change for another 6 months… thank god i’m graduating soon thats all i can say.

I guess I just see USAT as part of racing. The races I enjoy happen to be USAT so not a big issue to me.
can anyone tell me when the last increase was and how much?
I did 19 USAT races this year. Wonder if I should still renew?
Gonna have to crunch some numbers…
A USCF license is about $60 and gets you about the same a USAT membership as best I can tell.
from the USAT release:
“This is the first annual fee increase initiated by the organization since 2003 when it went from $25 to $30. The annual fee was $25 from 1993 to 2002 and had ranged from $10 to $32 over the previous seven years. The one-day fee was $10 in 2003 before being reduced to $9 for the past three years. It had ranged from $5 to $12 since 1989.”
Jason from USAT responded that the youth fee will stay at $5 this year.
