In doing a little research in preparation for the upcoming USAT election I couldn’t help but notice that some USAT Board members have done the Hawaiian Ironman. I assume they were given VIP passes. I wonder what other perks the Board members get. Does anyone know?
Why the new profile? What do you have to hide?
“what other perks the Board members get?”
this is a pet peeve of mine. everybody writes of perks. this appears to be the correct usage. however, isn’t perk short for perquisite? if it is, shouldn’t it be perqs?
besides, that’s not necssarily a perq. maybe it’s payola. i don’t know. i only know that my kona trip was earned. of course that was back when you didn’t have to qualify. i waited tables, bought the entry, flew over, raced, flew home. 23 years ago. 27th place. will you vote for me? and, can you send me your ballot, so that i make sure you voted for me correctly?
I last did Hawaii in 1995. I was elected to the Board in 1997 and nver did Ironman as a Board member. My last Ironman, Florida, 2003 and I signed up like everyone else.

I was on the board for Tri-Fed/USA (USAT’s predecessor) from 1986-1988. Not only were there no perks for board members back then, seven of us donated a $1,000 each so that the national office could buy paper and pay its phone bills.
