I received my ballot today, voted for Lew Kidder in the Central region and Steve Locke for the at large seat and voted yes on the bylaw ballot.
I remember when races in these parts were 25 bucks and held in small IL and WI parks for 150-300 people tops. I liked those days.
While a few of those races are still around, these days the races are sold out “events” with big price tags, a whole lot of people and a whole lot of “noise”, but they are, for the most part, well-put together, sanctioned, and insured. It’s not the good old days anymore, but its not a bad thing either.
Maybe some USAT changes can lead to a way for the best of the old and the new to meet somehow. I have enjoyed the sport for almost 20 years and have never minded paying the yearly fee…but it would be good to see some new ideas coming out of USAT.
