USAT AG Nationals Wave start times are up

Guess they pulled the race start time to 7:15. Us old folks are going to get out first, and then
a 30 minute wait before the studs get in the water. I hope that is enough time for me to get out
and not get caught on the bike or run.

What’s up with the 30 minute wait? I’m in the last wave and it’s going to be a lot hotter by the time I finish the run. Does anyone know what the air temp is expected to be?

The 30 min wait is probably to let the older racers get a little further ahead. Sometimes the much older racers (70+) take a long time swimming, and they don’t want people swimming at sub 20 min 1500m pace swimming over them for safety reasons.

I feel for you on the last wave. I was in the last wave last year at nationals. I didn’t get to start until 9am and it was hot in Kansas City. And there was no shade on the run as advertised.

Having gone to college in Oregon and having a sister that lives there, I know that the temperature in the summer is usually pretty mild, but can fluctuate just like everywhere else. It is usually not too hot and it is not very humid in the summer. But you want to be prepared for anything.

I agree. Normally races can start at 9, best case is 8. So, to start even earlier to get us older folks out of the way, no big deal.
Was going to be an 8 start before, so this actually makes folks get out sooner, compared to if they had started everyone at 8, with
the older first.

And I agree, weather could be anything from a wash out to killer heat. Will try to be ready for anything.
