USAT AG Nationals Lake Water Temp as Jun 17

Our local triclub, the Gecko’s, had their 4th annual multi distance (from 800M to 2.4 miles) organized swim today at Hagg Lake site of the USAT Nationals in yikes, 2 wks!
Weather was cloudy & cool ~ 55-60. Water temp was reported to be about 65. Though on my polar it showed up as initially 68 & then after ~ 40 min of the 2.4 m swim dropped to 67.
I wore my long sleeved wet suit as many of the seasoned triathletes did. But there were several in sleeveless & the US organization something swimmers went with no wetsuits at all. One certainly wanted to put on something warm post swim though with the cool air.

For those that are interested here is a link to the lake with some possibly useful information. Also the distance from highway 47 to boat ramp C is ~ 5 miles.

See ya in 2wks.

I’m surprised no one is interested in this.

Thanks for the post. I did not see it. Thats cool. Will have my long wet suit.

Whats the current weather forecast for the 30th?

Dave

Yea, but it is fun to see what the guess is, vs what really happens.

Dave

They are way too short of a race for all the ST studs.

Dave

I wanted to say that I appreciate someone posting the water temps. Since I am from Central Florida, I have been quite curious to find out what the temps will be out there. At 67 I should be able to survive in my sleveless wetsuit.

Thanks

Oh boy…

I’m sure it will be fine…Hagg is not generally cold, I’ve swam in it sans wetsuit, and I’m about 145lbs on a good day, that is, after eating donuts, drinking beer and walking around in water-logged canvas tennis shoes.

Fwiw, I cannot believe the Aquathlon was shortened so people could wear wetsuits, mother of god… it’s only 750m, that’s a quick dip… The run-swim-run format had me interested, now that’s swim run I’m miffed.

“Seriously, a three day forecast is pretty accurate”

This time of year? Where are you getting your forecasts from? Heck, if they can accurately predict the next three hours, I’m impressed. Especially in June.

Of course in July and August you can predict sunny and warm and be right 90% of the time. And Nov through March you can predict rain and be right 95% of the time.

Thanks for posting. I am interested in this and have passed on this info to my team mates who will be there. Just didn’t really have anything to add. But thanks!

Thanks for the info. Have you heard any more as to the current water temperature for Nationals on Saturday? I’m trying to figure out whether to bring my (preferred) short sleeved wetsuit or to go with the long.
Thanks

go no wetsuit thats where its at.

Grant

I haven’t heard anything more. They will post it on Friday for check in. The weather is going to cool down (~60’s) for Thur & Friday & be rainy which won’t warm the water up any. On Fri is supposed to be cool, cloudy without rain but the rain returns for Sunday. Forecast up here change quite a bit depending on how fast the front move through or if they hand on the coast.

I’ll probably wear my long sleeve. But since I’m local I can decide on either at the last min.

Barb

Thanks again for the info. I think I’ll go long sleeve cos even if the water is a toasty 70 degrees, if the race is anything like many other such races, they’ll have us hanging around for quite a while before the start and the air could well still be in the low 50s.

Agreed on the standing around. Same reason I’ll do the long sleeeve.

Improving Weather update (as of today). Looks like only have Thurs & Friday with showers & then the warmup towards nicer weather starts on Sat on Sunday. So its expected to be in the 70’s on Sat.
