US women’s soccer equal pay again

Looks like the mediation talks have broken down so I guess it goes to court now?

I hope so. I can’t wait to see what the ruling is and more importantly why.

Article I read on this was the first one I’ve seen mention that the women actually get paid salaries and provided health insurance that the men don’t.

Do you live in a cave?

Has anyone seen a good article laying out all the details of the men vs women’s compensation? It seems much is getting clouded by possible inclusion of other things like WC bonuses and any club pay, both of which have - I assume - little to do with USSF.

My underlying sense is that the compensation levels are not that different, but I just haven’t seen any good, independent analysis upon which to form a good opinion.

When I can. What’s that got to do with articles not pointing out the above?

No my guess is you would need access to US soccers books and the public doesn’t have that?

Go easy on Windy. The Dow is down and it’s Trumps fault and he’s pretty sensitive today.

So more pugnacious than normal.

This isn’t going to end well for the women. Here is the statement from US Soccer: “Over the past decade, U.S. Soccer has paid our Women’s National Team more than our Men’s National Team. From 2010 through 2018, U.S. Soccer paid our women $34.1 million in salaries and game bonuses and we paid our men $26.4 million—not counting the significant additional value of various benefits that our women’s players receive but which our men do not.”

The womans team negotiated for guaranteed base salary for the season and an additional guaranteed base salary for playing in the National Women’s Soccer League. They also negotiated for game bonuses, health insurance, a retirement plan, injury protection and maternity leave. The men’s team only receives game bonuses, which are higher than what the women’s team receives because that’s their only compensation.

Yes that’s my understanding, and why I said above articles now are talking about the women’s salaries whereas before that didn’t get mentioned.

Thanks. That Fact Sheet lays it out fairly well. Seems the women’s case is not, in fact, very strong at all, and considering the likely much lower interest in the women’s league than the men’s professional league, they should probably be fairly happy with their contracts as they are.

It will be interesting to see how this ends up.

I do think the women are much better at marketing their case than USSF.

As a guy who coaches club soccer, has a few daughters that play and is a fan of the game- I’m probably on the fringe of being informed. I don’t know all of the facts, but I know more than someone who reads a headline “That women aren’t getting paid” and demands change.
The case seems to be complex. The women are paid a salary (but only 18 of them. The rest are paid on per appearance basis). They also get insurance benefits. (Which they likely need because their women’s club team probably doesn’t offer it). They also get some sort of subsidy from US soccer to fund their salary for their club team.
Their performance over the past few decades leads people to believe they should be paid more than the men. Maybe they should.
But they negotiated a CBA and have been paid according to it.

Here is what I haven’t been able to easily figure out - “What EXACTLY are the women asking for from the US Soccer Federation?” Do they want the exact same package that the men get? Do they want a bigger bonus for winning? Do they want better travel arrangements? Do they demand to never play on fake turf?

Are they also trying to go after FIFA? Seems that US Soccer has done “ok” by the women when compared to what FIFA does.

Because a good portion of the ones I read did mention it?

A) stocks are up
B) Dow is for retail

I don’t understand why they went down this road. To get equal pay witg the men for game bonuses their total comp is going to go down

By virtue of the World Cup it would have been near impossible for USSF to get as much attention.

A) They were down when I posted that
B) I am glad that you can rest easy now that they are back up (from yesterdays disaster)
C) I am sorry that Trump is doing his best to destroy your booming economy

Dow is for retail

You keep saying this. The correlation between the Dow and the S&P over the last year (percentage daily diff) is 0.97 (R2 of 0.94). So what point are you trying to make?

There’s a US men’s soccer team?
