They don’t have a map on their site and I haven’t seen any others out there yet. Here is a map of the bike route based on the text description from their site. Figure if anyone was interested and wanted to have a look I’d post it up.
Be ready for a nice 2 mile climb out of the State Park into Cedar Hill. Otherwise, flat or downhill from there. Not the best places to be cycling through, but shouldn’t be bad early in the morning.
According to the site it is almost half full. Not sure how new or old that update is though. I know I registered on July 31st and still got a free hat which was supposedly for the first 500. I think the cap is 2000.
rumor is the sign-ups are lower than expected. I really hope everyone comes out to support this event. They really seem to be trying to put on a top-notch event. From personal phone calls thanking me for signing up (slightly weird) and the cool free hat, to the great course and related work with the city for closure of significant roadways, this really looks to be a first rate event.
I plan on signing up, but at $140 that’s really hard to do. I’m sure it’s a top-notch event, and the schwag may be nice. But I thought the point was for athletes to speak with their wallets regarding the rising cost of entries? I’m sure that’s why the #'s are low?
agreed. I signed up early (wasn’t a whole lot cheaper, maybe closer to $100). It is a point to point course in a major metropolitan city. Having put on race in Dallas, dealing with and paying for street closure, permits and police is VERY expensive. Not justifying the high fee, but I am sure this race is not cheap to try and pull off.
yeah, I guess if it can work in LA and Chicago it can work here. I’m just concerned about the areas involved…the parts of town affected by the race could really give a rats ass about having a bike race going through them.
I think you will be plesantly surprised. I ride over there quite a bit. Very supportive neighborhood. This route is all on major roads, so I would seriously doubt there will be any issue. That area is very dead at the time of day the race will be rolling through.
