US Bike insurance?

Anyone out there insure his/her bike w/ a U.S. insurance company? I don’t even know if this is possible but as I pump more and more $$$ into my P3 (HED aerobars in the mail) it occurs to me that insurance might not be such a bad idea…

My bicycle is insured as part of my homeowner’s policy (“contents”). Check with your insurance company to ensure that a bicycle that is worth more than they would think will be covered. Renter’s insurance should cover bikes, too.

i had to take out a seperate insurance policy for my bike. im covered under my parents plan, but they only insure the first 500 or something. so i had to insure for 3500cdn (so, like $10 US). my deductible is still 500, but the full value is covered now.

Our bikes, cameras, scuba gear are part of a seperate waiver on our homeowners policy. It’s $500. deductible and we had to go into great detail with photos, descriptions, replacement value quotes. Talk to your insurance guy. It’s a good idea to take detailed photos or videos of your toys. Unless the unlikely event of your agent being a bike racer or triathlete, they won’t have a clue about what your bike’s repalcement value is.

Young Ironman - who did you do the policy through?

meloche monnex.

my dad has been using them for everything from life to car insurance, i think its part of some dr’s group thing. im apparently still covered under his policy, but i had to take pix of the bike, etc as cervelo guy said for claim purposes. i suppose i should take new pictures now that i have the disc and new pedals :frowning:

im not sure what the rates are like, how competive they are, or anything else. personally, i have insurance companies, they are a pain in the ass to deal with.

i suppose i could find out what the coverage details are, but my dad usually just takes care of it for me, and i stop worrying about it.

let me know if you want me to call

p.s. the $10 US thing was a joke, i hope you didnt think i was serious. i was making fun of the exchange rate

this was my very first post on slowtwitch. ah, those were the days. sadly the aforementioned P3 got pawned off a long time ago.

my agent wouldnt insure my bike

check with Nationwide, whether you have other insurance or not with them matters not, they have some sort of policy that will cover your bikes, even if you get in a bike wreck and damage it. I haven’t checked into it, but someone I know has it and told me about it. I think he said the policy was something like $100 for the year. Don’t know about the deductable.
