Urgent aero helmet fitting Q

(Yes i’ve searched and couldn’t find a specific enough answer)

…i’m about to order a LG Rocket but need some fitting advice. I tried a medium and while it fits snugly on the top of my head, the sides only reach about halfway down my ears. It slides on okay, i have to “unfold” my ears once on but no issues with that and width (once on) is comfy enough. However, when i see pics of this helmet in action i see them covering most of the rider’s ear (down to the ear lobe), if not all. I can’t try a large but suspect the top of my head would be swimming in it, although the side/ear fit would be more appropriate. Yes, I have a funny shaped head.

So guys & gals, which size should i go for?

Are there safety concerns with wearing a “too-loose-fitting” lid?

And before you suggest i try others the Rocket is really my only affordable option here (NZ)…the others (Giro Advantage I & MET Pac II(?)) are circa $400 which is frickin ridiculous! Constructive responses appreciated in advance…

Cheers
Peter

I used to use the LG Rocket (wife uses it now) and the head band is very adjustable but based on my experience with the Bell Meteor II, I would advise that you get the size that allows the sides to covers the majority/all of your ears. Based on the fact that I wear S/M in Giro and Lazer helmets, I initially ordered a size small Bell Meteor II. The fit around the circumference of my head was adequate, but the side fairings did not extend beyond mid ear lobe which on short efforts like 10K time trial, was not a problem. Unfortunately the pressure on the ears on the 1 longer distance TT I did with this helmet (40K) was torture as it felt like a vice was clamped around my ears and while it made for quite a distraction during that 53-minute effort, it also gave me a headache. I replaced the size small with a size medium and no more vice grips or headache.

Micheal, thanks, i think that’s almost the advice i was looking for however when trying the M i don’t feel that “squeeze” on my ears…more an aesthetics concern than anything and, having said that, wondering if i should bother with the L and just stick with the M?

I am in NZ and after being unable to find a good fitting aero lid locally, I took a punt on an LAS crono from probikekit.com

the only lid that compares pricewise locally was an LG prologue.

the LAS is a bit of a marmite helmet but I was able to get a good fit in it, thanks the the adjustable retention system, and it seems to work well for me.

thanks, if you don’t mind me asking what did you pay (landed - after GST/duty/etc) for your LAS? the rocket is $280, pretty fair price i feel

the LAS worked out at 250 inc freight ( the dollar was doing quite well at the time)

280 is a better price than I could get plus there was a wait of a few weeks (pbk deliver from the other side of the world in one week or less usually)
your rocket deal sounds like a great deal
