Anyone else heading to this race, this Saturday in Portland, ME? Looks like fun, with the swim from the island. Anyone have any info about the bike course/road conditions?

I will be there.
By the time I found out about Timberman, it was sold out. Go figure. Looking forward to Portland nonetheless.
I will be riding the bike course on Thursday as I have no clue as of yet what we’re in for.
See ya if I see ya. I’ll be rocking a Reno Area Triathletes jersey and shorts.
wow, I had forgotten about that.
I guess I need to decide pretty quickly, I just looked at the website and it said online registration closes at 3 today… here we go again, lobstering or racing. lobstering or racing. lobstering or racing ![]()
Colin, will this be a Trukweaz v. CCF smackdown?
I know the swim ride and run like the back of my hand, nothing super tricky except be careful on the descent down Fox and Walnut St.
Kurt
I know the race director well…he’s be in big supporter of Pumpkinman, is a triathlete himself, and puts on a world class event. I’ve talked with him at length about EPIC and the logistics of this race are truly amazing. I can’t wait to hear how it all goes as I will be a Timberman. It is sure to be in the WOW factor of races. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this race becomes a destination race for athletes from all over the country! Go Tri-Maine!!

Uh oh. I have a feeling this smackdown will consist of a little trash talk at the start, followed by you waiting a LONG time at the finish line for me. Should be fun though, it’s the first time I’ve raced olympic distance in three years! Mrs. CCF and I have been looking for an excuse to go to Maine; we’re going to hit a free concert in Freeport on Saturday night and then go to a minor league baseball game on Sunday afternoon (probably). Good stuff. See you there.

I can’t race so I’m volunteering. My husband is racing. I don’t think road conditions and such should be a problem, but it does sound like there are more-than-normal logistics involved so read everything carefully and I’d suggest a course talk. For example you need to be wearing shoes to the swim start and you have to another pair of shoes in the “mini transition” which is for the 1/2 mile run from swim exit to transition area.
And don’t go over the mount/dismount line on your bike, because I’ll be watching!
LOL.
well have fun over here…the free concerts at Beans are cool.

So? What did you decide, lobstering (I’m not sure that’s a word) or racing?
This race looks very cool. Had never heard about it. With the right publicity and if it si not held the same weekand as Timberman in the future I could see this being a sellout.

Kurt if you are racing you ought to win this thing. This one seems like it was under the radar with most of the talent at Timberman. This race looks like a nice cherry for someone to pick.
The RD had no choice, the City told him when he could have it.
As for racing fast…I dont know CCF is in full IM race training, I am a dad/hack short course racer.
KP
“I am a dad/hack short course racer.”
Last time I checked, multiple wins in a season does not equal a hack ![]()

Wow ! Sounds like a very cool race.
1/2 mile run to T1…sounds like there should be a Smackdown for fastest to T1 right there. Since its a street “cred” type race, perhaps a mugging of some sort is appropriate ; )
It would great to see you and Kurt podium this one.
Good luck bud !

IF you end up lobstahring, and you catch some, then you better send me a few. Especially since you don’t eat them : )
Hope you’re well.

oh you should see the 'hood we drop down through on the bike. On Walnut ST, there is a guy called the “dude”, he hates cyclist and has been known to throw newspapers at them!!!
Hopefully he wont be awake at 7:30 tomorrow morning.
CCF and Trukweaz on the podium…repesenting ST for sure!
Colin, there are lots of races, but I will never have a summer like this one. I am going to stay here and enjoy my last weekend as an island child. And, if I am a smart girl, I will REST tomorrow before I get hurt again.
Lobstering - to take a boat out (there are special lobster boats) and haul the lobster traps. Measure the lobsters, slip elastic bands around their claws if they’re big enough, throw back the small ones. It’s fantastic. I have two traps off our pier and I paddle my little boat out every evening to haul them (I’ve caught 29 lobsters, 10 big enough to keep) - have been waiting all summer to get out on the big boat, tomorrow is my last chance.
Best wishes for both you and Kurt! Have fun
race fast.
Haha, I’d be happy to send you some if they could make it through the mail safely (they can’t). My parents got to eat the very first two I ever caught
the others I’ve given to friends. I just like hauling the traps!!!
PM me your address, I’ll send you a postcard.
